Default The Results of taking CRX b16 to shop NOT SO GOOD!

After saving up 2k for the work to be done, on my crx I get diagnostics and they said its burning oil and shooting white and blue smoke. And that there's oil ontop of pistons. The last owner got some moisture up intake, this car rev's and climbs on the RPM Gauge and smokes I knew this much and after paying 90 for a diagnostics I still dont know much. ARGGG I'm just selling this 1991 crx SI for 1300 bucks just north of seattle, Wa its a mechanics project now not mine.

why do that? its just as simple as replacing a headgasket, piston rings and volia. worst case is getting new pistons

it would also need a hone job. That would be more because you would have to disassemble the whole motor. Don't give me that bull about having it done in the car. Hahahaha.... then ur engine will never run right.

I did a backyard hone job on an engine last summer. Ripped it apart, pulled the pistons, replaced the rings and gave it a quick hone job with a 3-stone hone. Slapped it back together and ran a 13.6 the next weekend on 14psi, stock d16z6.

Been running strong ever since with perfect compression.

theres no way in hell it isn't doing damage. theres always metal shavings down in the bearings and everything unless you completely remove the engine and have the block hot tanked.

Yeah I dont know exactly whats going on internally to put oil ontop of pistons, after it go so called "hydrolocked" i drailed oil found bit gray sludge on top of drain plug the the oil and engine sat for about 2 years in garage so who knows if things rusted pitted out why it rev's or billows white and blue smoke. the intake was exposed to lots of water thats all i know. 1300 is good price IM looking at getting a EG put a SIRII Swap into like my last car that got stolen. haha all your posts are fun to read

if theres oil getting on top of the pistons, i would check the valve seats. for oil to be on top of the pistons means theres oil leaking from the head to the cyclinder. you can get the valve seats replaced without pulling the head and cost around $200 or less.

I think your talking about something else man. valve seals can be replaced without taking the head off. Valve Seats on the other hand, the head has to be takin off.

Valve guides are also a cause of that same problem!

taking a head off isn't going to take you a whole week to do. You have a very minor problem compared to alot of problems that us EF guys go through daily.

1300 is a steal!

I agree, in car hone job is definitely possible.
As for getting shavings in orifices and bearings... that's why they invented grease, tape, and plastic. Slap grease all over everything, especially crank bearings, to catch the junk, and can be easily wiped off... plus cover with a rag. On top mask off around cylinder top and with tape and plastic to keep garbage out of water and oil jackets. When done rinse very well with lots of oil ( i use about a quart for each cylinder, in a squirt bottle with long tube to get into the tight spots). I see no reason why after doing this any significant amount of shavings would get into any spots and do damage. Plus you're getting a certain amount of shavings in the oil from regular use anyway... and that's why we have oil filters (among many other reasons).
Boring the cylinders is a different story... maybe that's what you meant, but even that's possible... just take out the crankshaft too.

As for selling your CRX... if blowing smoke and 90 bucks for diagnostics is a problem.. then a bicycle might be your preferred mode of transportation.

If you are going to get into modifying your car you should really look into doing the work yourself.

I had a similar problem. Turned out to be a warped valve.
