Best Theft Prevention for your Vehicle.... What you can do...
Well, I see alot of you guys ask so, I'm going to go ahead and tell you what I feel is the best way to protect your cars. Besides locking them up well at night
1)A good passive remote alarm system - This is a first step towards keeping you car safe. It is not by any means the cure all to the common thief. It is just a step in the right direction. Your alarm should have 2 remotes, Siren, Flash the parklights, lock and unlock your doors, and arming without you pressing the button is a good idea. It is also a good idea to have it arm but not lock unless you hit the button. That'll help you from locking your keys in your car. make sure your installer doesn't take the easy way out and just wire tie the unit right unsder the dash. Tell him to have some creativity. This will greatly affect how fast the thief can disable your system. A back-up battery and an internal siren is also a good idea
2)Air Horns - This is a great way for you to do 3 things. a)Distinguish your alarm from every other alarm blaring out there. b)Hopefully give the theif a good scare and send him on his way. c)Alert others as to what is going on.
3)Starter cutoff - A must have. BUT, most alarm shops will use this in conjunction with the alarm and wire it in directly with your alarm. Forget that. Have a professional wire it in SEPARATE from your alarm system. This will better your chances of keeping your car. Most thieves think to pull your alarm module and think that all their work is done. This will give them yet one more thing to have to find and undo. Also, try and hook this cutoff relay to some kind of switch. Like maybe your passenger window up switch. In other words, everytime you get in your car, you need to turn your key and then huit your passenger window up switch. Or passenger seatbelt switch. The red button
That is a switch, it has a trigger. How many thieves fasten their passengers seatbelt before taking off? Keep it separate from your alarm.
4)Hood Lock - This is a very good device. Not many people use this anymore and it's pretty sad. This device can be very helpful. It will keep ypur hood closed even if they break into your car and pop it. The best one to buy is called a "Maxi-Lock" it has the best lock and key mechanism and is very sturdy. It also has the option of an addition cutoff relay which is a great idea. Lock the hood and cutoff the fuel from underneath the hood. Now you have 2 cutoffs. DO NOT cutoff the starter again if you already have. 2 relays will cause problems when hooked up to the same device.
5)Un-brakeable Autolock, this is an awesome device. The best of it's kind I have seen and is very inexpensive.
With all of these device hooked up, you possibility of theft is greatly reduced. Especially when there is another car down the block that does not have all these anti-theft devices. Nothing can make your car steal proof. It can always be towed and their are always VERY knowledgeable thieves out there that know how to undo any system. These are all just steps to help you out.
Best of luck. It's a jungle out there

I took this from myself from another topic I created a while back:
Before you get all pissy and say "this will only help car theft" READ it. These are things that will generally keep car thieves from getting your car, and a few suggestions for things that will help IF they get the car.
The main reason I'm doing this is because I'm sick of seeing cool people's cars from this site getting jacked. I don't know if it's BECAUSE of this site or not, or whether it's just someone local stealing these cars because they have an eye for the expensive cars - even if they look stock.
Anyways, here goes:
It is my impression that even stock-looking cars are being stolen by these bitch-*** car thieves. So even if you've got a "sleeper" you need to keep your guard up as well.
There are ways in which you guys should guard your cars man, and this is stuff that only the MOST determined theif might not want to fool with.
1. NEVER leave your car unattended out of your sight. I know it sounds stupid, but this is what it comes to. When I go out to eat, I always sit in plain sight of my car, and even if it pisses off the people I'm eating with I always look over at my car every few seconds or so. By the time I see someone even stepping to my car I will run out there and "get something I left" out of the car.
2. If you have another car/beater, take THAT to the movies, or any other event that requires you to leave your car alone in a big-*** parking lot.
3. IF you have a garage, ALWAYS park it in it! NEVER get too lazy even if you come home late or something to just open up the door and pull the car in. The ONE time you don't could be the very time your car gets stolen. I lock my car in with a padlock on the inside too.
4. NEVER let too many people know where you live if possible. I don't tell people where I live. They *might* know the area, but I don't tell them what street and stuff. Only my closest friends know where I live.
5. LO-JACK! Hope fully even if your car gets ripped you can locate it before it's stripped down.
6. Even less important is an alarm. It MIGHT help draw attention as the car is being stolen if the theif doesn't bypass it somehow.
7. Get FULL coverage insurance! This way if all is truly lost you can have some money to start over with.
8. TAKE lots of pictures of ALL your mods! Write down ALL the serial numbers of your stuff - even add hidden stamps or heat tabs and take pics of those. And keep all of your reciepts of your purchases. If you get full coverage these things will help you get the money you deserve to REPLACE YOU car just how it was, and not just get a stockie beater that's the same year model.
9. Take all the usual precautions as well - you know, park the car on a curb with the wheel locked towards the curb, park in well-lit areas, don't leave valuables in plain sight, etc. These things do not really prevent the thief from taking the car, but it will help deter them.
11. And as far as this MB goes, unless you KNOW where your car is at ALL times I would NOT post up pics and then list all the mods on the car. If somebody has seen your car before in your hometown, and then they see ALL the mods listed here, it might be too temting to either steal the car or pay somebody else to.
12. *EDIT* Oh, and also here's a neato thing to do. Buy a new ignition switch that has a DIFFERENT key than your doors. This will help keep certain people from stealing your poo poo, like former owners of the car and whatnot.
13 *EDIT* Another suggestion I've also seen, and done myself, is pull certain fuses that disable the car from being cranked. There's an "ACG" fuse under the dash, "ECU" fuse under the hood, etc. You can also pull the ECU itself out, or as someone else suggested put a "dummy ECU" in the car. Get a poo pooy burned up ECU and gut it out and plug it in when you leave the car. These will make the car harder to DRIVE away, but towtrucks will always be a threat.
14. *EDIT* Also, NEVER hit VTEC or drive fast near your home. If you've got stereo stuff, turn it off when you get anywhere near your home. People around you notice these things and it would be an easy target because it's close and they can watch your patterns at home - thus making it an even easier target.
Ultimately I think if someone is hell-bent on stealing your car, they will end up with it. That's why Lo-Jack and full coverage come in handy. I know you might be saying that it's too expensive to get full coverage, or that Lo-Jack costs too much Jack, but THINK about how much money is invested on your car. ALL could be lost without these things.
If you have anything to add, then please do so. I left a lot of specifics out so I would not throw any dirt to the car thieves that might be reading this poo poo.

thanks guys for the tips...i;m just wondering...what would you guys recommend on theft prevention on things on the car...such as rims and tires...i ordered McGards wheel lock spline...is that enough??TIA
THE ULTIMATE THEFT PREVENTION IS WHEEL BOOTS AND A ALARM CANT TOW IT AND IF THEY TRY TO PULL OFF THE BOOTS YOURE ALARM WILL GO OFF THEN YOU SHOULD ALSO BUY A BAT AND A GUN THAT WAY YOU CAN SHOOT HIS LEGS SO HE CANT RUN THEN BEAT HIM WITH THE BAT

does anyone know how to or have a site that shows how to wire a seperate starter cutoff, fuel pump cutoff, backup siren, interior siren or airhorn?
good advice so far.

i've read a post a while back in the security forum having to do with connecting a kill switch (or even more) on the sensor for the clutch. did anybody else read that post?
an anti-carjack is a good device. its a button you must press in 30 seconds after you have started the car if you don't then the car just shuts off. click on the link below, then click on other items to check it out
to add a couple things to what you said......If you do not have a garage and must park in a driveway, pull your car as close to the wall as possible, and install a pole into the concrete right behind it. That makes it hard to tow, or back out.
Second: If you have spoke wheels, slide a Kryptonite U-lock through the spokes with the lock facing inward towards lower control arms(hard to drill).
Third: Never go directly home from anywhere! You will get followed if your car is nice, I always stop, pull over, whatever
the more layers you have the better, and most important don't advertise your shat

B18C5-EH2, and SIINSI...you guys both have great ideas, i never even thought of some of these things...a lot of your ideas do exactly what is needed, cause the theif to take more time than he wants to take stealing your car...maybe when i get my new car, i can use some of your ideas so my car wont get stolen again
when i had my ECU in the floor board i would take it into my work with me all the time because i could not see my car at all and there has been alot of theft in that lot.
i dunno it is a good idea and all but when i would take turns it would fly back and forth.
