1999 Accord LX 4 Cyl eng oil level??
I have a questions about my accord. I just bought it a few days ago and I was changing the oil and I put in exactly 4 1/2 quarts like the manual says to do. When I did that it's still reading low right now. Do you guys just leave it low or fill it up to the full mark??? I had a 1997 F-150 that was the same way and they said to just leave it alone and fill it to just what the manual says. Thanks for any replays
Make absolutely sure you are on level ground and let 4.5 quarts oil drain slowly about 2 hours and recheck with dipstick. The level will increase slowly.
I called 3 diffrent dealerships and they all told me to add what I needed to bring it up to the full mark. One service guy even said that the manual is wrong and that it holds a little more.
Follow the dipstick hole, you put in 4.5 quart but your motor can burn some, you might have a leaky gasket, etc
just do what the dipstick hole tells you to

Thanks for the info. I'm just going to fill it up to the top hole. It looks like that it will take between a 1/4 and 1/2 a quart. I don't have any leaks from any gaskets.

Yeah. Follow the top hole like everyone else has said. Another reason why the oil level may appear low, is if you replaced the old oil filter with a new one they will take up some volume as well; esp. with a S2000 filter, etc.

The spec sheet says there's actually a total of 5.9 quarts of oil in there. When I change oil I usually rotate tires while it drains. Jacking up the 4 different corners of the car seems to let it drain more thoroughly, so I usually have to put in more than 4.5 quarts. Just add oil until the dipstick says it's good.
I have a 98 accord 4-cyl. with 140k miles i bought brand new. I have noticed this engine is a slow drainer for some unknown reason and very sensitive to a level ground. Be careful when adding oil to this engine because the level increases very slowly as time passes. I know this sounds strange, but very true. All other engines I have owned don't do this.

I overfilled it a couple times before I learned.
