Default Inner C.V. Joint Puller???

Has anyone ever used one of these? I've been searching to get an idea of how exactly it works. If you literally have to pull then I know it won’t work.

I've got a major problem with my passenger inner cv joint stuck in the tranny. I've tried for hours to get that bitch out and only managed about half an inch. I've broken the tips off tools, 4lb hammer, used an air hammer, used a pry bar with my brother behind me for extra leverage and nothing. I used more pressure pushing on that pry bar to try & pop it out then when I go to the gym and press 600+ pounds with my legs and that ***** won't budge! I guess I need to work out more!

I took off the intermediate shaft to pound it out the other side too and no luck. I've done the 1/4 turn rotation method and put screw drivers/air hammer bits on both sides for equal leverage. I've already damage the outer casing of the tranny so I don't want to do this anymore if there is another way.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciative!!

Yea, that was the easy part. I took the driver side off with-in five minutes, compressors rock, just bought it last week. Too bad it's not helping with this situation though.

Show me a picture of what you are talking about, I would imagine something like this might work.

90blackcrx, that's the puller I'm talking about. Do you just pull or there a way for this to have some type of torque applied to pull out the joint?

InJ3cted, at this point I don't think Superman could pull this out! If that's the case I'm SCREWED!

91civicEX, the intermediate shaft was easy to pull out. I only did this to see if I could knock out the passenger (stuck one) joint from inside the tranny. I've got an air hammer but I didn't use it from the inside of the tranny for fear of accidentally chipping that part or leaving pieces of the joint stuck inside.

Thanks for the replies, keep the ideas coming please!!

Looks like that tool posted is a slide hammer. Heavy handle slides, impacts that spherical stopper, and jolts the cv joint out.

My only other suggestion would be to stick a heavy duty centerpunch in through the other side. Axles usually have a dimple in the center on the end of the splines, which lets the centerpunch not move when you wack it with a BFH. The other suggestion would be to rotate it while trying to remove it (be with a crowbar, centerpunch, etc).

Thanks again for the replies everyone.

"HiProfile", my buddy just told me the exact same thing on how the CV puller worked, to bad I didn't know about this before. He says to use a 10lb slide hammer, so I will see if this works.

I will try sometime this week to rent one and I will post the outcome.

"ludesrv", I tried the air hammer too but no luck, I've got holes/dents in the CV housing to prove it!
