crx 4 wheel disc MC in a ef civic - any change?
Has anyone tried this combination? A crx si MC with 4 wheel dics on an ef hatch with drums. Would that be an improvement or a problem?

It would do nothing for you.

Improvement of what?
Pedal feel? Only if your current MC is smaller than 7/8".
Stopping distances/braking power? No, it won't make any difference.

Please evaluate on "brakes suck."

Of course. The master cylinder has nothing to do with whether you have drums or discs.

Of course. The master cylinder has nothing to do with whether you have drums or discs.
"brakes suck" = pedal requires excessive pressure to stop vehicle.
I aasumed the crx si has a 15/16'' MC because it has rear discs. I figured the larger bore would make the pedal stiffer. I'm going to put in a proper MC tomorrow and see if the problem goes away.
It feels like glazed pads but i replaced them and rotors but no change. It's not the brake booster.

theres no reason you cant get your stock brakes to stop the car properly.
i hear that you changed pads and rotors. thats good. but did you bleed the lines properly? is it "mushy"? then its still likely youve got air in your system. also, old calipers need to be rebuilt, seals go bad, let air in, leak fluid, small enough you wouldnt notice a leak, but will affect the performance.
changing the rear brakes does very little for improving your hard, threshold braking performance. so little weight is over the rear during braking, they dont contribute much, and shouldnt be the focus of looking for improvement.
tires also have a tremendous affect to braking performance. thats really whats doing the work. you need good rubber for that, not old hard stuff.
ive heard from several experienced drivers (ill call them racers) who have switched from drums to discs in the rear, and said there was no difference in performance. just easier to maintain.

i put si brakes on my ef with drilled and slotted rotors, it stops alot better. stock ef's in general dont stop for ish
oh yeah, check if your vaccum line to the brake booster is cracked or not hooked up properly, that would make a big difference

sounds like you benefited from just putting new rotors on your car.
stock EF's stop great. 15-18 year old brakes dont. maintain your brakes to like new condition, and theyll work great again.

actually, i rebuilt the entire stock brake system before i did the si conversion it still didnt stop for beans, my buddys ef's are the same. the bigger tires do help though
