I'm looking at all the threads on various security alarms for the older Honda Accords, and am wondering if I need extra protection. I have read that Honda Accord is one of the most stolen vehicles. I also know that my 2006 Accord EX V6 with Navigation comes from factory with a security system which activates the horn/lights when any doors/hood/trunk is forced open, or when radio is removed or the wiring is cut. In addition, an Immobilizer System is present.

I have to ask these questions:

- Should I add an alarm to a 2006 Accord EX V6 with Navigation?
- What would an aftermarket alarm add to this vehicle's protection?
- Considering that I am not planning to add any expensive mods to this car, how necessary do you feel it is to add this extra protection to the car?

An aftermarket alarm will be another layer of security that a potential thief will have to overcome to get your vehicle. If you think that you'll be secure with the OEM alarm, then don't worry about it.

An additonal alarm will give you a shock sensor, and you can add a backup battery and interior sirens, etc... An aftermarket alarm can also have aux channels to control window rollup modules, illuminated approach (I've got my Viper set up to turn the headlights and reverse lights on from the remote) and more.

Is this all models of just the EX V6? I have a 06 LX.
