2003 Accord EX V6 - ABS, prolonged stopping, and grabbing
I have an Accord EX V6. I have never had a car that skids as much as this car. I have good tread. I was going down a snowy hill today and could not stop, I found when I drove over 3-5 mph the ABS would come on and start releasing and grabing the break but not doing anything to stop the car. I feel I can do better with maybe, snow tires and no ABS!
I have brought this car into Honda to have the breaks checked 4 times. Seems the calipers had been loose once, the rotor was smoothed out once, the breaks were checked and were OK. The problem started on near dry road, the car breaks would grab causing a jarring, shaking of the front end and the car would not stop until I lifted my foot off the break and applied it again then it became smooth and stopped, but it was over the stop line and good thing no one was infront of me! The car would not stop. I think I would be better off without the ABS. Can anyone tell me what to do about this problem? Anyone had the same problem? The last time I was in Honda took the wheel off before we test drove so after they had put it back on it then test drove well. Whats wrong with it? The breaks should not be causing front end wobbling and shaking!
I have always been a good driver in the snow but this ABS is bad news, should or could I have it shut off or learn how to put up with the front end shaking when breaking. Afraid to drive miss my 4WD. Or is it the calipers doing all this?

My friend... I am not able to give you the correct answer... but SAFETY comes first, always... so.... don't even wait too long... take the car back to honda and DEMAND a fix for everyone's sake..... and tell them... "if you can't find the problem and fix it, I will get a lawyer.."
If they are professionals, they MUST correct the problem!

I had the same reaction with my car. I was hoping that FWD would help in the snow... It snowed in Raleigh a little bit last winter, so I took the Accord out. Went down a slight hill and couldn't stop. I eventually just steered into a short culdisac, turned around, barely got back up the hill, and put her back in the garage. Traction Control was going crazy the entire time!
I guess investing in some chains would help, but other than that, you can't beat a 4WD... (That's why I kept my '88 Cherokee rockcrawler - 32" Super Swamper TSL's are GREAT!!!)
Good luck getting those problems worked out.
