Default a couple bolt on questions... pros/cons and going the distance.

ok, heres my list of mods (simple bolt ons) that i will start on late this winter:
dc sports ceramic coated header
either full 2 1/4 exhaust or cat back (installed, may be going with full exhaust)
cheap ngk plugs/plug wires (installed)
Cone air filter, directly on the throttle body, with a breather filter on the valve cover (installed)
Skunk 2 intake manifold
stage 1 exedy clutch matched with streetlight flywheel by ACT
b&m short shifter
stage 1 camshaft, probably from zex or crower
AEM cam gear
possibly mildly upgrading the head internals
new radiator, something made totally of metal and not plastic lol.
updated/new vacuum/coolant hoses
and AEM pulleys (not a crank pulley)
and prolly a new water pump just for the reliability so it doesn't blow out on me down the road.

now for a couple odds and ends questions
first,
do these mods seems to flow reliably, and match well together? the reason i ask is the car will be a daily driver.

second, long trips. i love in iowa and will be driving to the maryland/ washington dc area this summer (20 hours). i know a honda can more than handle it, but i've never really put performance parts on my car, usually just appreciated a honda for what it is

3rd, the AEM pulleys. i've heard pros and cons about pulleys. i know crank pulleys can tend to cause problems, but what about the power steering/ alt. pulleys? - thats a question i want mostly answered lol.

if i think of more questions i'll add them lol... sorry for the wierd questions.. im just kind of a over concerned person lol... thanks all!

Sounds like your basic bolt ons. None of them should make a change in the reliability. Change your timing belt when you install the water pump unless you recently changed it .

take the breather off your valve cover, hook it up the right way, your engine will function better that way, that or run a catch can but I cant' see you producing enough blow by with bolt ons to warrant the catch can. But either way you need slight vacuum at the valve cover to effectively vent it, you dont have vacuum with breather. There's right... then theres rice... do it the right way not the rice way.

Only downside to AEM pulleys is the alternator if you have a system then the battery will always be weak because the pulley is larger than the stock one, the engine has to turn it more to achieve the same charge. the power steering one you might notice that your car feels heavier in parking lots.

cool thanks for the info.

still looking at more info on the pulleys...

and will the cam affect the reliability of the engine over time? again, will be driving to the east coast plus daily driving.
thanks

i must agree with the actual intake rather than the breather filter, and also i have heard good things about blox intake mani. and they are a tad bit cheaper than the S2 ... they sell them at jhpusa.com

Basic bolt ons will not affect reliability. Hey since you live in iowa as well were you going to go to have a dyno tune on that cam gear? Assuming its adjustable, because I cant find a dyno in iowa.

since when do you NEED to dyno tune a cam gear?
i've heard of one in iowa.. but i can't remember where...

ASSUMING you have to dyno tune a cam gear... which you dont.... would mean everyone with an aftermarket cam would have to take a trip to a dyno... which they all don't.

i do not see what you're getting at?

if your altering timing, then you need to tune the car, and you do it on a dyno. why else do you get a aftermarket cam gear other than its adjustable? thats not a part you get to reduce weight.

i've always been told that if you get an aftermarket cam....it needs to have an aftermarket cam gear to go along with it... is this true?

if so, is there no way to correct the timing without a dyno?
