frozen E-brake. gear slips when parked!!
i got a 98 accord Ex 5 speed. 145k.
Problem 1.
in the winter i cannot use my emergency break when it gets around 30 degress or lower because if i lift it up, the cables freeze. if i try to lower the lever it goes down but the pads are still locked against the rotor. previuos owner had honda change the calipers at aorund 100. and experience same problem many times.
2. b/c of this the other day i put my car on a steep driveway ramp n i left it in 1st gear. i get out n a few seconds later, the car rolls back a few inches n stops. then it does it again. i quickly got in my car n steeped on the brake. again it did the same in reverse gear too.
any diognoisis would be helpful from you guys thank you very much

yo the same **** happened to me. i left my e-brake on and i think the pads froze too. i had to go somewhere so i had to burn up the drum brakes. i thought it froze cuase it rained the day before and i left my car outside the garage.
happens to my accord all the time when it gets cold. i presume the problem is the cables. lube the living **** out of them... car mechanics will probably look at you funny. talk to someone that ride/races dirt bikes or something and they should be familiar with the procedure.
basically disconnect the cables where 2 become one at the ebrake, slide a piece of hose over the cable jacket and secure with hose clamp. fill the hose {should be clear} with brake clean, stick an air fitting in the end and blow the solution through the cable. repeat several times. now fill the tube with cable lube {avail from motorcycle store} and do the same thing... this should solve the problem.
obviously lube all pivot poits etc. anywhere grease once was and has been replaced by dirt and water will possibly lock up when cold.
