Default Custom video camer mount.

Ok so i'm bored and posting this to maybe give you guys some ideas. I finsished my roll cage today in my eg hatch. I was just sittin around thinking of what else i could fab up just to waste time. I decided to put a video camera mount on my harness bar. So here is what i cam up with:
Went to walmart and bought a small tripod, the metal one not any plastic crap. I took the tripod apart and all i have now is the swivel piece from the top. I plan on using a piece of 1.5 DOM tubing, notching it to fit the harness bar and welding a plate to the top to mount the swivel head on. Then welding it to the harness bar. That should give me full adjustment of the camera while mounted. I know the explanation isn't that great so i will post pics as i go along.
Lemm know if anyone would want one. I can make em to fit a roll bar of anysize. or on a brace that could mount to the headrest.

You may end up having to do a rigid mount because the cheaper swivel mount will get knocked around in a race car.

i thought about that, but the small tripod i got has a surprisingly strong swivel end on it. And its not a race car, just a fast street car. But i'll see how it works and go from there.

Once it gets knocked around a couple times they don't stay put as well, but if you have a lightweight camera it might not be a problem. The camera we used had a bit of weight to it.

I have to agree on that one once you move it around a couple of times it is going to lossen up and not hold as tightly. Why dont you post some pics of the cage though we would love to see that in this section.

Cool good luck with it. In car cams are pretty sweet. I've done alot of shoots with them, and the suction cup external mounts are pretty cool to use too.

ok so the camera mount is in. welded to the harness bar. went for a cruise earlier to test it out and it seem to hold up good. but then again it was only for a lil while. only time will tell. will have pics up as soon as i can get some.

Tested the mount last saturday and works great. only vibrates the slightest bit, even at 130+mph. makin some for a headrest mount now. Pics coming after the weekend cause the car back at home in RVA and i go to school in PA.

I bought a $2 U-bolt type muffler clamp, clamped it to the spot on my cage where the camera should go, and welded a piece of 3/16 plate to it. I have a 1/4-20 bolt going through a hole in the plate into the bottom of the camera. It works great, no vibrations in the video. Total cost....$2 and about 10 minutes.

sounds good to me, i mean whatever works right. but i wanted to be able to adjust mine in any direction so i had to give up a lil on the stability, but its not too bad. video is still pretty clear and u can see what is going on.
