How many people have taken their cars in for their trannys grinding...I've had this problem since day one of buying my new car 2 years ago...I changed the fluid a couple months back to the GM Synchromesh FM and it kind of went away but then came back...Weird thing is that when I first did my tranny oil change the fluid came out very clean...I have the extended warranty even though my car only has 20,xxx miles on it. Is it worth it to take it in. How do they usually act towards things like this? Btw this is only second gear. Ever other gear is fine they never grind. MY 03. Thanks in advance
Until it can be duplicated easily I would not bring it in to a dealership.
(all of 2004 and some 2005)There is a bulletin about the trans popping out of 2nd gear. This bulletin involves replacing the countershaft 1st and 2nd gear set (includes syncros).
(2001-2004)There is also another about the trans popping out of 4th.
This is a bulletin, not a recall. So if the problem was duplicated (popping out of second) this is the repair procedure they would follow.
In you situation it sounds as the first to second gear syncro is to blame. Once easily duplicated it will be covered under warranty. Whenever vehicles come in under warranty for grinds we will usually test drive it in case any other syncros need to be replaced @ the same time being that it will all be under warranty.
Heres an excerpt from our monthly Honda newsletters: When the m/t and mtf in a 00-04 s2000 are cold, expect some grinding or a notchy feeling when shifting from 1st to 2nd or from 2nd to 3rd. There is nothing wrong with the m/t; its just something common to all s2000's.

I've noticed the same grind from day one too. It does go away (or at least get to a point where it doesn't do it on every 1-2 shift) after about 20 minutes of driving i've noticed. I'll mention it to the dealership next time i'm in and see what they say about it.
My brother did, but he had to pay for it. $450 I think it was. And that was an under the table deal with a Honda tech that did it on his lunch break
