Default first crack at stainless charge pipes.

Im still pretty new to TIG and this is the first thing (beside some small repairs) that I have sent out on a customers car. I have lots of room to improve but i think he'll be happy when he gets it back. Should be around 500awhp, stock block, 93 octane + water

I spent a lot of time cleaning up lines and whatnot after these pics too. subaru bays are such a mess!

Its all 304 stainless. fused with a miller 250.

Nice, what up pipe and downpipe are you running with that turbo? What is it, a GT35?

thanks guys, the dial was at 50 amps.

Anyone know how i can get a nicer looking color? I tried up to 30cfm of argon but the results were pretty much the same. mostly just a pinkish weld. In a few spots where I let off and left it shielded i got all the nice rainbow colors but only for a 1/4" or so.

im going to be doing the EXACT same thing in about two weeks...any advice?

Ever change the fuel rails or injectors out on a subaru? = death

for better color... do an inert chamber.

Ya actually that was my first subaru pipe set. Lots of weird/ tight areas. Just make sure you have 6-8" or even more straight before the MAF. Be careful around the fuel lines. idk, if you have done other charge pipes before youll be fine. Also you will need to build or buy a coolant overflow bottle if you want to come up infront of the drivers side timing cover. Other wise you can use a mini battery and come through the fender. Next one i do i want to do the cold side with 2.75" if i can find it reasonably priced.

yup I do sti/wrx injectors a few times a week sometimes. Not like a honda that's for sure.

inert chamber? you mean turn the dyno fans off and shut the door

ya .82. There's really nothing to the turbo install. its way easier to install than stock parts.

little thing i did that actually helped a LOT was takign the 2 studs out of the bottom of the block fo the tranny...

i just put a chain on the 2 bolts for the slave cylinder and jacked it up towards th TOB...and thing got the input shaft near it and lifed the back with a floor jack and starged wiggling it till it seated. was so much easier wiht the lack of room from the bellhousing and firewall

interesting. I find those studs really help me get it lined up quickly. I use a post jack on the front of the block to angle the engine down and then just slide in.

another thing is to take off the thin steel bracket on the top of the tranny. You can do it with it on there but you dont need to angle the engine as much with it on. Also you can leave most DPs on with no problem.

Looks nice,

I remember when we brought up our 95 AWD Talon for tuning and it almost came off the dyno. Remember the strap burnt!!!

Also, remember how we could not get it to go past 23 psi. Turns out, there was a major leak behind the Venom Intake Manifold. We are putting a new turbo on the car and we are going to give you a call to setup another appt..

later,
Gabriel

What engine management is being used? Don't you want the MAF in the intake pipe vs. charge pipe?

TXS Utec. Blow through MAFs work great but you could have it on the inlet too if you wanted. yes the bov is open atmosphere on this STI, but you can tune around it anyway.

I really stress pressure testing to everone that comes to F1. I would say 1/2 the cars I test have a signifigant leak somewhere.

not jacking it up by the bolts. we are talking about the hardware that holds the bellhousing to the engine. all the top ones are long bolts but the bottom 2 are studs that, for me, serve as guides to help you get the tranny on. In order to get the tranny lined up I jack the front of the motor (to the side of the oil filter).
