Default Custom H22A crx 4-2-1 hybrid NA header how to...

I got materials today for the weekend project thanks to Stan's headers in Auburn, WA they really know what they are doing! They make custom app. headers and parts. They gave me some helpful advice. I really liked there swivel ball joint looking collector and the best thing is NO GASKETS NEEDED!

My project I bought a H22A 4-2-1 OBX header off ebay for $150 for my crx. I scrapped the downpipe (bottom half of the header). It was way to small for what my build up will consist. I think it was a 2" exit, plus I needed it to hug the oil pan better like the OEM header. I needed a 2.5" exit. The primaries on the top half of the OBX header is decent 1 3/4". I will be opening it up to a 2" OD at the flange and will go into a 2.5" collector so the bottom is a 2" 2 into 1 into 2.5 collector and finally into my 2.5" exhaust system. I spent a lil over $100 on materials. It should perform real nice. I will be taking it to the dyno begining of next week. I will post pictures of the install and final result.

Ya I was quite pleased and shocked at there inventory just tons of laser cut turbo flanges, Honda flanges etc... sadly its one of the few places maybe the only in the south sound area that has an actual mandrel bender...

I had a few hours today so I started on the header. I bored out the header flange and downpipe flange to 2" taper bore. Next thing is to port match the header and slap it on and start the cuting and welding...I'll post more pix of the progress tom.

I spent about 4 hours today on it and knocked out the dowpipe. Basic cut and tac method. Turned out pretty decent for my first header experience. Stock OBX went from 1 3/4" primaries all the way into a 2" collector and exit. The new header goes from 1 3/4" primaries to a 2" runners and finally into a 2.5" collector. Definetly an approvement! I will post pix tom. of it installed and my new custom 2.5" exhaust system. I am eager to see how it will do on the dyno this week.

Well you have it off you might want to inspect the welds from the flange to the primaries. My brothers obx h23 header cracked on three of the runners just got done welding that back together and fixing the holes where the under engine hanger broke off the two secondaries. OBX quality=retarded bad undercutting and over heating of the basemetal woohoo!

I tigged my brothers back together about 7-8 months ago and it's still holding strong so there is hope

When the downpipe was bolted for the final time a brace was added to the back of the engine block. It should hold up, if it dont i'll get my welder out...

1 3/4" primaries soundsa little small. you probably want 1 7/8 primaries form the reaserch I have done on a 2.0L B series.

Well here are the numbers on a dyno dynamics dynamometer at Horsepower Connection local here in Olympia, WA. Real nice guys and knowledgable. He has a 1200 hp Twin Turbo v8 66 Nova drag car. There website is http://www.HorsepowerConnection.com . I was quite pleased with numbers on a p13 ecu. Peak hp was at 6900. I made 158 ft lb tq at 3200 rpm. My base today was 182 whp slight adjustment of the cam gears and dist. Which makes me believe I am near max with the jdm h22 cams and or the p13 ecu. Type S are on my wish list along with a p28. My mods are below. The header really seemed to help out a lot.

obd1 JDM LSD H22A I/H/E
SS valves stock replacements
PnP by me stock else
30k mill of the head
Skunk2 cam gears
BandM FPR at 45 psi open throttle
8 lb fidanza flywheel
stage 3 XTD clutch
secondarys hooked up to vtec 5500 rpm
spoon chipped JDM p13 ecu
