I'm really debating on building up a tranny for my hatch.
I have mounts for both cable and hydro so thats not problem. I'd like to keep costs low and have it work to start.
I was thinking if all cases are same going with a gear kit and FD and LSD making it my own setup. But I've been getting poked non stop "straight gears just do it" I really only race or winter drive the car I've driven a car with it before. So I am aware its louder then an amp to a open header. I can't say i've driven it really around town or anything though would it be doable?
Are all the casings the same so I can snag a running LS cheap? If i was to start rebuild of my own could I just stuff GSR/ITR/B16 parts in? or use parts made for them?
Who the hell would I contact about a straight cut box?
Thanks in advance!
I've only dealt with b16 trannies first hand so i just wanta double check

I think they can do straight cut gears for you. I am sort of in the same boat as you. I'm contemplating how I want to rebuild my tranny, or if I want to do it myself. Also, I'm not sure about the guts of the trannies being interchangable. I think it might depend on whether it's cable or hydro that will make the difference. Hydro to hydro - Cable to cable, but I might be wrong.
I've been practicing with my d tranny and getting the general idea of taking it apart. It doesn't seem too difficult and is by far the cheaper method. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind someone else building the whole thing that way I can yell at them when it doesn't work.
BTW, I just got a quote from Marauder on this board who deals with gear-speed for everything I would like done to my tranny. If you shoot me a pm I can tell you what it would cost me just to give you an idea.

b-series hydro trans should all be the sam w/possible exception of itr and ctr but for a fact gsr b16 and ls will all fit the same internals. gear speed does make straight cut gear however be forewarned. extremely noisey!!!!
