Depends on just how bad you arcflashed yourself, but you should be just fine. Try not to make a practice of if...
I'm sure you've seen the leather welding sleeves you can get. I picked up a set that had a little x-harness (that I cut off; no way it would fit me!) - best thing I ever bought; now if I have to MIG anything, my non-stinger arm doesn't look like a heroin addict's. *lol*

ok let me get this straight. you got a job as a welder, and you wore short sleeves and minimal protective gear? 1# priority in welding is safety. no matter what shop you go to. Btw nice cars. i want one.

I guess it could be dangerouse in a way, but its never bothered me that much. I weld almost everyday with short sleves. Other than the random spatter hitting your arm i have no problems. But i guess its all up to the person. Oh but i never weld without a helmet. You can still get welders flash even with your eyes closed, especially when TIG welding. I dunno if you've ever had it before but it sucks.

Yeah, welders flash in the eyes feels like you've got sand if them, happened to my buddy when he had to use the wrong shade helmet for a day. doctors gave him cream to keep his eyes from falling out.
But i've tacked up a whole god damn battle ship just closing my eyes and never felt any pain or anything from it
then again its only arc and mig.

looks like a fun job. I try to keep long sleeved cotton shirts on at very least. go to your local hand-me-down store and buy a dozen or so 100% cotton dress shirts or cowboy shirts or whatever you wanna call them. they seem to work the best, something with a collar and long sleeves.
I also highly recommend a good set of leathers if you're doing any overhead. otherwise you can get away with the cheap cotton sleeves that they sell at most welding supply stores for about $5-12/set.
when i weld, my gear consists of carharrt bib coveralls, a wrangler type shirt (cowboy shirt/dress shirt whatever you wanna call it), steel toed boots (required by law here in any industrial/fabrication shop), cold weather tig gauntlets (they are thicker than regular tig gauntlets but not those stupid thick insulated ones that don't let you have any torch feel), my leather half-shirt (like sleeves with a neck and breast protection to go over top of the opening of the bib on my carharrts), sunscreen on my face for any tacking that i may have to do, and of course my helmet.

So lets see some of your welding pictures, are you actually welding on these cars ?
Something about you not even know about the arc rays, and welding on a vehicle ment for 4x4 makes me wonder.

Just a thought, some companies do not like pictures being taken of their R&D or assembly areas... just don't want your dream job to go away before you even get started... Make sure it is OK to photograph, perhaps wait a week or so until you get the feel of the place... Congrats on your position!
As a little aside, one plant I was in, they got so p_ssed that we brought potential recording media into a conference room, they confiscitated our cell phones, (with and without cameras), PDA's and the like. I got mine back in a little box, with all the batteries and flash cards removed...

That would explain why you disappear for months and then just show up out of know where. Explains a lot now.
