Does a Carsound Hi-Flow Cat Dampen Sound AND kill power?

I've got a hi compression GSR and I'm going to have the exhaust made tomorrow. It'll be 2.5" from the AN-R header, through a Magnaflow resonator and into a hi-flow muffler with silencer. I know it'll probably be too loud without the silencer but the silencer will most likely kill some power.
I've got a Carsound (magnaflow) hi-flow 2.5" cat and I've been told it will dampen the sound substantially without killing power. This way I can run the muffler without the silencer.
How would you guys do it on the street? On the track, I will be removing the flex pipe after the header and run it open.
Thanks!

What model Carsound? Well it's at home right now but it's the the 2.5 in/out high flow model - I think they only make one model at 2.5 inches.
It would be great to get an answer from SMSP

The Carsound cat I have is #94006. You mentioned the 935** series were the best. I'm getting my exhaust installed tomorrow and I've decided not to install this cat because my car isn't tuned yet and I'll probably damage it (cat).
Is the 94006 a good cat? Thanks!

I stopped using the 94005/6 cats long ago. I then went to the 93505/6 cats which did very well. The size and brick specs are nearly the same so the flow rates should also. There are numerous cats that flow better than these.

Hey thanks for posting Dave. I logged on just to see if you responded before heading out to the muffler shop
I'm going with just a Magnaflow #14416 20" resonator and muffler/silencer for now.
I'll probably install a cat later on after I tune the engine so if you could recommend a good hi-flow cat that'll fit on a CRX I'd appreciate it.

This is my exact set up, using an ES 2.5in muffler, and it's very quiet. I don't think you'll have any issues with it being untolerable.

I guess it really depends on what you consider loud and intolerable. I had a "JDM" DC with a 2.5" Carsound (can't remember which model) connected to a Tanabe Racing Medallion. It was kinda loud, but definitely something I could stand. I did get an exhaust ticket for it though. BTW, open header was MUCH louder than open header w/carsound cat. Also, I think there was data on Team-Integra about a test between a carsound and a straight pipe, the carsound only flowed a slightly less amount of CFM.
