Any reason where someone or yourself may have taken off the crank pully recently?

For some reason, it sounds as if that threads in the crank are now trashed. The crank pully bolt works just like any other bolt (nothing special to it, not reverse thread or anything) and if what you are doing feels like you have a stripped bolt/crank -that would be the problem.

is the pulley shaking out of whack as if a bearing is bad? some people see the pulley going nuts and dont realize their crank bearing just shot until the oil starts pouring. -not to jinx you...

it is possible to over tighten the p\s belt and actually bend\break the end of the crank. hopefully thats not what it is, but a tech i work with has actually done it, to his own car. since the p\s belt is the last belt on the crank pulley, and the end of the crank is pretty flimsy it is very easy to do. if you haven't messed with any of the belts recently you might be able to rule that out. you can take the crank pulley off and look at the end of the crank to make sure though.

you need to hold the crank pulley itself when you torque the bolt down. the spec is somewhere around 133 ft lbs if i am not mistaken, i need to find my helms... but there is a tool that is a big *** hex shape with a hole in the middle for the socket in order to tighten the bolt while holding the pulley in place. try not to use air, that can break or damage a crank real fast.

driving with a crank pulley that is loose is not a good thing. you can break the nose of your crank right off...tow it if possible.

i forget what it is called exactly, but most people will call it a honda crank pulley holder wrench or socket. if you want to get an idea of possible damage, remove all the belts, remove the crank pulley bolt, slide the crank pulley off...don't lose the key(it a small little thing), and look at the crank nose. it should be round, smooth and have a sharp flat edge. if it is all rounded and beat up looking...sorry.

oh, i got my pulley tool from SNAP ON. you can get them from the dealer or any tool truck.

Isn't there supposed to be a woodruff key in there that doesn't allow the pulley to slip?

I recall one on my Civics, but it's been a while since I had to take that pulley off, so I can't be sure.
