Anyone?

The bolt the negative battery was grounded to, melted and broke off. It was red hot. So im gonna goto the store and get a new negative. And try again..Any input from anyone would be great. I am running a 1200w kenwood amp, to my 12'' sub, and was wondering if it was too much. Any input would help.

What was the last thing you did? Who installed your system?

put a stock vx motor in, and hooked up my HID's. I installed the sub and amp, i've had quite a few set ups before just not this powerful. Im not a pro, by any means. Im using a basic monster cable set up.

First time doing the HIDs? Im thinking something was wired wrong or grounded wrong in that area which caused a major short and turned into the fire. How long have you had the HIDs?

My first time installing HID's yes. about a few days ago? I dont see how else i could of installed the kit wrong?. Now that i do recall..Sometimes I'd go to turn them on and they wouldnt turn on, then i'd try again and they'd work. This just started maybe a day or two ago.

As you can see in the first picture. The bolt had been burned off. I tried the new negative batt wire, and it just starts to smoke even if i put the postive on, and my car still has no power with the wires hooked up. Definately something VERY VERY wrong here. No clue as to where to start, the swap went more than well. help me out HT!

I also tried with my hid's not hooked up..same problem. Checked all my fuses, none seem to be blown?!?!

Try disconecting the amp wires once, its possible you have a short to the frame somewhere more then likely where it passes to the firewall.

I tried. Still smokes when i put the battery on. How could of this started today? I was driving the car last night after i finished the swap.

I did see sparks from random bolts on the frame when i tried to put the battery together.

I would try disconecting the starter cable next, and instead of hooking up the negative you can use an ohm meter to read the draw it shouldent be much as long as you leave the amp disconected (The amp has capaciters in it that probably have discharged by now) so if its all good you should have very little for the radio and clock basicly.

Now if that dosent work pull the fuses out, all of them, and plug them in one by one and when you have a spark or a larg draw thats where your proplem lies. but since your not blowing any fuses i would think it would be something big like an amp wire or starter wire.

Just for the hell of it disconect the wires at the amp side as well the main power and ground I doubt it will make a difference but it has me thinking maybe a bad amp or possibly the battery went south on you but thats remote at this point.

I am from washington quite a drive.

I tried disconnecting all the excess wires from the positive, and checked my starter. it looks like its all hooked up fine.

Yea thats the proplem tho, it may look fine but something isent lol

I would pull all the fuses and I mean them all start with just the under hood cause that is more then likely the cause with the swap. Hook up your ohm meter and you shouldent have a draw at all because the memory circuit is pulled.

If you do then pull the ones under the dash and check again, if you still get a spark its more then likely a bad battery assuming the starter wire is disconnected.

But if you dont have the spark after pulling the hood fuses put them back in one at a time checking your ohm meter for a draw, when you get a spike thats your proplem. I wouldent put the memory one back in because I belive thats the only one that should draw with the car off.

I honestly think its your amp wire or something with the amp to be honest. I would completly un-hook it just to be safe.

It is possible the amp fried your battery by over drawing it.

I take it pulling all the fuses dident do anygood? If thats the case its your amp wire or starter wire, there is no place else for the current to go.

This is rare but it does happen..

Batteries can somhow reverse the polarity.

making the pos the neg and the neg the pos.

Doubt this is the case....But.......WHO THE HELL KNOWS.

That is NOT good... you better check over everything you've done. If this just started after a few days of not touching anything, I would say something moved, and is grounding out, or is just plain hooked up incorrectly. Unfortunatly, the damage is probably already done. Your harness is probably fried together in some spot from getting too hot and your ECU might be fried now as well...

Sounds like you've isolated the problem to the starter selonoid. Sounds like it's stuck open, replace it and you should be all set.

replace the starter itself or just the solenoid?

Should only be the solenoid that needs to be replaced, however what I would do is just take it to a starter repair shop and have them rebuilt it. That way if anything else did go wrong inside it can be fixed at the same time.
