Default The joys of owning a bike (story with the cops last night)

Well last night was one of the most weird night of my life. It was 3am in the morning and I was up doing a research paper for one of my classes. I kept hearing a helicopter flying over my place. So i decided to take a break from my paper relizeing i left my r6 in my driveway. So I went outside to pull my bike in my garage so it wouldn't get jacked and to check out the helicopter. Well i backed my car up and then got on my r6 to pull it in the garage. Next thing I know this helicopter I heard was 50 feet above me with a giant spot light shining on me. I just looked up and waved. Pulled my bike in the garage and then proceeded to pull my car in behind it. Next thing I know there are 4 cop cars flying around the corner with their sirens on and get on their intercoms telling me to get out of my car. I was in complete shock. I got out of my car and they put me in handcuffs. I was so confused. They began talking to me accusing me of just robbing a store and leaving on a motorcycle. They claimed the helicopter had followed me the entire time. I went insane on them telling them they are full of ****. long story short i had to prove I was at home so they came into my condo and looked at the research paper i had been writing and my AIM windows showing that i had just been talking to people (because it has the time slip next to them) they appoligised and told me it was their mistake. They said my bike and cloths matched the discription of the suspect. Oh the joys of owning a motorcyle.

Picture of my bike if any one cares: http://viewmorepics.myspace.co...86685

Cliff Notes: helicopter shinned the spot light on me. I got put in handcuffs and accused of commiting a robbery and escaping on a motorcycle. They thought I was someone else b/c of my bike and cloths and they let me go.

How can you sue the cops for arresting you? That doesn't make any sense to me.

its called false arrest i beleive... and i dont know if you can sue cops, but i know if a company accuses you of stealing and detains you falsely, you can sue the **** out of them... thats why Inventory Management Associates at department stores and such are very weary about accusing people of stealing... i heard that last year most companys actually lost more money in lawsuits than they gained from re-claimed merchandise! sorry, that was a bit OT.

Very True used to work for a major Corp and they are called non productive stops, and well there are people who make a living just getting over on new detectives.

Yeah working for Walmart and Sam's Club we were instructed not to accuse anyone of stealing unless we were absolutely sure they stole something, saw them steal something, and followed them to make sure they didn't get rid of the item. I'm sure other retailers are the same.

I think Fry's Electronics does a similiar thing. Your supposed to stop at the exit and show them your receipt and the merchandise you bought..........but they can't stop you otherwise it's like them saying you stole something. It's funny to watch them stare at you as you walk out the door w/out stopping They have this look of disbelief on their faces.
