Default need advice looking into buying a 2001 Type R Canadian

Hi All,

I need your advice here. I've loved the Type R since its inception in 1997. Brother has purchased one back in Houston back in 2000 which was stolen after about one year.

I live in Canada

Details: 2001 Type R CW with red seats, 61,000 kms. No accidents, no dents. All maintained at Honda dealership.

Car is $18000 plus 7% in Ontario.

What is this car really worth?

Thanks again for all your help

Richard

If it's $18k in Canadian money then yes it's definately worth it. If it's $18k in US money then it's still a good price.

hi kendall

thanks for responding.

blackbook in canada calls for 16.5K CDN as low and 17.5K CDN as high

do you really think its worth it? only reason why i'm getting this price is because it's my brother's good friend.. he must leave to overseas for a job... i personally know the owner as well..

Only reason why i ask is i dont want to be stuck with a car i cant get rid of in 1 yr... 2001 is 4 yrs old which is quite old... and plus with all the new cars.. Si and alll the type r seems less attractive.. is there still relaltively high demand for this car? plus im afraid it may get stolen but it does have boomerang...

all prices are in cdn.. what do you think i could resale it for?

thanks again

High demand? If you keep it stock or near that, have a clean title and no accidents the car will actually eventually go up in value.

hi dave_b

really? because its limited edition? i think they make less in canada...

the red seats arent as nice as the black ones in my opinion though

no accidents and yes clean title

i think i will purchase it then

any big things that must be done at 61000 kms?

thanks again

Not really. You shouldn't have to look into any major servicing before about 90k kms.

i am

22k is on the high side, not sure what the market is gonna be like in a few years for ITRs.

i bought mine to drive, all day every day all year round. If you are buying the car and looking to make money you might be dissapointed when you go and sell it.

You should by an ITR because you love it.

Buying a car as an investment is a pretty stupid idea. Buy an RSP instead if you want to get your money back.

And $18,000 CAD is a pretty killer deal for a 2001.

hi dr. poo face,

i do love the ITR however, i support myself and i just quit a 100K paying job to start a new business... i just dont want to screw myself.. no disrespect to type rs... i LOVE them... i am cheap as hell... thrify everywhere and i'm seriously considering buying it cause its a good deal...

i dont invest money anymore because i have a mortgage etc so too risky for me...

the deal is killer then i guess?

just wanted to reconfirm as people are telling me different things

just dont want to be screwed

dave_b - thanks for the info.

zc911 - 22K is high eh? i dont notice any ITR on autotrader... most have high mileage and look modded... which i think decreases their value...

i'm not lookin to make money just dont want to lose money... want to break even after taxes and paying for insurance and gas.

thanks,

if you're that tight on money don't buy it. wait until your business takes off and then pick one up.

honestly, i don't know what u guys think
i got my 97 with a bit less than ur price. i still think it's a good deal. a 4 years car is not consider old. and you won't have the fun with the new si as for the R

frozenb - like i said it is my brothers best friend. we know this guy very well.. he wouldnt screw us... when did you buy your 97?? was it in good condition? how many kms? if thats the case then my car is worth quite a bit since its in excellent shape?

george knighton - i dont expect to get 18K for it after one year if i put on a lot of kms but because im getting it for a better deal right now i do expect it to maintain its value.

greengs- if i dont buy it i will let you get your paws on it

primates - im not tight on money im just stingy...

dnd - on autotrader those type rs might not selll... they just put them for high prices

zc911 - he's in mississauga - all stock

thank you everyone for their advice.

$18K CAD for a 2001 is an awesome price! I got my 97 R for $17K CAD. in BC. Go for it! However, if you want something less costly but still nice, consider a GSR. Still a nice car, but not as rare and as expensive...
