3 New prospects - Advice from Acura heads needed
Ahrite, my last GS-R prospect was a dull, I am now going for an LS since they are a bit cheaper and have lower mileage. So here are the three cars I will be seeing this week.
1.
95 Red Integra LS
Clean Title
New Engine (80K miles on it)
Everything else has (180K miles on it)
Springs
Has a 98 Front and Red however, the front needs to be painted
New timing belt
There is a damage on the rear right passenger side. It is bondoed but not a good job he said.
He is asking $2500
2.
96 Silver Integra LS
Clean Title
115000 Miles
Rebuilt head with skunk 2 valve springs and retainers
Coilovers with spc camber kit (have stock parts)
catback exhaust (have stock part)
AEM CAI
Rolling on donuts
Alarm (2 Way Pager)
He is asking $5000
3.
94 Black Integra LS
Clean Title
166000 Miles
Replaced Timing Belt
Replaced Clutch
Replaced brakes and rotors
after market rims, intake, and head unit
He is asking $4000
So out of the three, which would be your best bet and are their asking price just right, too much, or a steal?
Keep in mind that I have not seen the cars yet. I just wanted to ask for advice before I see the cars, so if that is the car I should get, I can offer cash and see if they will sell it to me on the spot. These Integras comes and goes so fast that I want to make sure that I know what is considered a good deal and etc.
Thank you.

Even with the needed paintjob? That would add an extra $1000 or so to the cost of the car.
Is it because of the new engine that was dropped in?

yes that and aftermarket parts dont add value. plus more then likely the other cars also will need a paint job soon cause they are almost as old as the other car if not older. go with the cheapest one man.
I'd say the third. It sounds like it has alot more miles but miles aren't really important, compression is what matters. The first one would be the best option if you could get a paint job for cheap but a good one is NEVER cheap unless you know someone who does them.
Take the color into consideration b/c you don't want to end up hating the color and wanting to repaint it when you could have just picked a different car in the beginning.

. Dealing with a damaged car can be hell and the other one has some aftermarket work done and you don't know how reliable that is because you yourself didn't do it.

I see. Black would be my first choice in color. I am going to be taking a look at the 3rd Integra tonight, and the 1st Integra on Saturday. So I will def. take a look at that.
In terms of compression test, would I have to ask him to bring it in to a shop to get it checked or how does that work? I am not familiar in regards on how to do it myself.

i would say either the first or third, leaning towards the first. The new engine is a plus, it should be a long time before you have to do any work to that. Even with the damage and paint, with that fixed you will have a fairly new car for approximately 3500 to 4000. and youll only have 80k miles. what kind of damage is it on the side?
The third one sounds the best at this point and time. The other ones have been tampered with a little too much in my opinion. Find out more about the third one. Remember, the more stock it is, that is the one to go for. Save yourself some $$
Ahrite, the Silver LS is a no go for sure. He is firm with $5000.
The Black LS is 50/50. The windshield got cracked recently, so that would be an added cost. The paint is okay, but there are some rough spots. The interior is not bad. The engine bay has no leaks, but it does not look that clean. carfax on the car is clean and had 4 previous owner, the first two was located in Mass. He is pretty firm on the price and the lowest would be about $3500. But the added cost for repairing the window will bring it back to about $3800 or so. Suggestions?

wow so now people that do mods to their engine are ricers??? everyone better take off there turbos or else youll be a ricer!
</TD></TR></TABLE>
i think it's more of just not knowing whether the previous owner raped it every day or if he took care of it
edit: id also go with the 3rd one.. even with the repairs needed to be done.

I would pick number 3. Since the timing Belt, clutch, brakes, and rotors were replaced. So you don't have to worry about those for awhile. Number 1 may look good since the motor has less milage, but everything else has 180k on them. Meaning that the bolts may be rusted on/ sized/ stripped the list goes on. As for number 2 I wouldn't buy a car that'salready been modded.
go w/ number 3..
seems like regular maintenance was done...id rather have a few rough spots and better mechannical condition...
#1?? a motor replaced at 100k??? new paint?? that seems like he doesnt take care of the car...my OG motor has almost 180k, still runs great...and my paint still looks decent..

That does make sense. The motor blew when it was only 180K.

right now i'm thinking the 3rd one. talk him down a bit...that mileage is high and it's almost a 12 year old car.
How are the interior of the cars. General shape of the car / speakers and other misc stuff?

Yea for real, how can you be sure the engine on the first one actually has 80K on it? I'd go for car two or three all the way............but wait a minute, why the hell would you trade down from a GSR? If you think that was dull wait til you drive the LS.
