Default tranny noise

yesterday i was driving in my 91 civic cx 5speed and I heard a squeeking type sound(like from a fan) coming from the engine bay.

I put the car in neutral and opened the hood to check where the noise was coming from. The noise seemed to be coming directly from the transmission.

It sounded up close like a crunching sound. Then it continued for about 5 more minutes and after getting the car up to speed it just disappeared completely.

I was thinking it could be the throwout bearing however this sound only existed for about 15 minutes and never happened prior or after that time.

ANy ideas?

Well after closer inspection I determined that the sound is coming from the distributor and when you touch it you can feel something crunching in there.

ok now that I know its the dizzy, the car runs fine aside from the sound that is made for a few minutes then stops, should I change the dizzy ASAP or has someone experienced this before?

Sounds like the rotor is taking a **** or something. Pop the cap off and take a visual inspection. Free bump.
