Default turning distributor to advance/retard timing??

ok, i know tha turning the distributer toward the firewall, is advancing, and away, is retarding.. so my question is , advancing = low end power and retarding = top end? does anybody still do this anymore??if so, how much have you advanced or retarded it?

Correct I used to think it was the other way until Jason Hunt showed me 1st hand it not . But you can go to far both directions and kill your performance all around.
