No offense Frenchy, but i don't think you can get your car to run 7.70's that easy. it's a big jump, and I can't see $10k making that up. </TD></TR></TABLE>
I'm so tired hearing this
of course this is bench racing !
here is the way I see it
I ran 8.40 best Mph was 174.23 at 33 psi of boost
now if i take 174mph the power to weight brings me at 815WHP
Calculate HP from ET
now to run a 8.40 I only put down 659WHP
so that means that if I would apply the same traction Garys as and loose the same Hp % in the chassis that would put the car at 7.99
now lets do the same for Gary's car 40 + psi boost
Garys best MPH 178.38 i think not sure
Calculate HP from Trap Speed he put down 952WHP
garys best E/T 7.781
Calculate HP from ET he put down 902WHP
what does this prove I need more traction and i'm missing 100whp and the hp is not a problem the engine is still not even breathing hard yet
i'm not pushing because I still use the stock OEM valves ,valve springs, rockers and
stock hydraulic lifters that all need to be custom fabbed if I want to upgrade and I dont have the money for it
now lets do the same with Joe's car
Joe's best MPH 173.3 MPH boost ?? i dont know
Calculate HP from Trap Speed he put down 833WHP
Joe's best E/T 8.46
Calculate HP from ET he put down 669whpWHP
if Joe was to apply the same power % is best E/T would be 8.02
now is the power the problem or the traction ??
what this tells me is that ROUSH builds some mean Chassis

i think your cheapest out is to upgrade the valve springs and turn up the boost. valves lasted this long. if your are on methanol than stock valves should hold up fine with less heat.
It is easier to make HP with your setup now than change the chassis around. not that it would not hurt.

Just for fun I did the same thing with Shep's Car
John's best MPH 179.06
Calculate HP from Trap Speed
John put down 1165whp to run 179.06
John's best E/T 7.97
Calculate HP from ET
John put down 1015whp to run is 7.97
again here if John would only loose the same hp % he would run a 7.724

the car is nice but nothing all that special the key is power management and the other thing you need to take into consideration is that if his car was a stick car it would MPH better. The auto has converter slippage which will reduce the mph versus a stick. Look at the mph Lummus runs as a stick (XTRAC) car. Anybody running a stock h pattern shitting with a clutch will loose some et as the car stops excellerating everytime the clutch is depressed just look at some of the graphs from a datalogger
I'm running an auto tranny also and from the numbers I have seen on the engine dyno and at the track there is not that much of a difference
dont forget that Shep's car weights aroung 2600lbs
and Gary's car weights 2150lbs
so who made more HP between those 2 ?

I would definitely expect more gains in chassis setup/traction than in power for a setup that runs 170-something in a FWD.
Frenchy - you're probably limiting boost in 1st/2nd gears to avoid blowing the tires off, right? What's your best 60' time? That GM car ran 1.30, 1.28, and 1.29 next to me. Their 330' times were in the 3.41 range and 1/8ths in the 5.1 range if I remember right.

yep best 60' this season 1.36 best 1/8 in the 5.4x at 141mph
if I try to launch harder I just light up the slicks like at Norwalk
I tried to launch harder Ran 8.60@ 174.23 smoking the slicks from the 60' to the 330
