Default What should I ask _or_ Engine Reccomendations

So the motor in my '90 dx hatch died. Think it ate the rings in #1. Compression is 0-120-90-60 (and it's screeching when I crank it)
I have a few questions for you:

1- If I sell, how much should I ask for the car in it's current state? I'm the second owner (first was a 65yo man), ~200K well-maintained miles (with a folderful of reciepts). One little dent on pass. fender, minor door dings, good factory white paint (unpainted bumpers), registration good till aug '06. Basically it's a bone stock '90 DX 5 speed with blue interior, everything is above average aside from the bad motor. New Alpine CD player + door speakers, new windshield... Super clean EF.

2- What motor would be a smog-legal near drop in with a bit more power, and what should I expect to pay? Right now it's stock, down to the DPFI. If I'm replacing this thing, I might as well plug something in that's got a little more power, but I'm lost as to what would be best ("search" brings up so many options...) I'm a competent home mechanic/JY scavenger, and I'm not afraid of a little wiring. I'd like to spend ~700 all told (and I'd like to do a clutch/FW at the same time). Possible?
Also- how much (if anything.. heh) should I pay for a used stock longblock?

Any help is appreciated.

If its clean then put a new motor in it. I have no clue what you crazy California people can put in your cars.

The d16z6 125 HP should be smog legal. I'm almost positive the DOHC ZC is not. The z6 shouldn't be too expensive if you find it at a junkyard. I however don't know where to find those off of the internet. If you find a z6, I would be willing to pay around $400-500 for it. That might be too much for most people though. That and a new clutch/flywheel combo should get you to that $700 mark.
