Default Gap at flange to pipe connection?

I did a quick search but didn't come up with anything. I'm going to start back purging and was wondering if there should be a gap between the flange to pipe connection just as there is between the pipe joints? Head flange, turbo flange, wastegate flange, etc. Thanks for any input

Nate

Depends more on the thickness of the material than anything. If you can do it in a single pass you probably won't need a gap but if it's a multiple pass piece either bevel the pieces or leave a small gap. A bevel would be better just because you won't be wasting as much argon.

Ok. I mostly just deal with schedule 10 and 1/2" flanges. A good bevel and no gap is something I will try. Thanks.
