Default ok to store bike in house?

I've been wondering this for a while. Are there any cons to storing a bike inside your house (as apposed to storing it in a garage)? I ask because I live in an apartment and have no heated storage for anything besides my virtually empty kitchen. Tonight we loaded my room mate's bike into the kitchen and put it up on it's center stand. Is this ok? Are there going to be any harmful fumes? Anything?

con is you're storing gasoline in the house... shouldn't be any fumes assuming you aren't doing burnouts in the room...

is the only consequence of storing gasoline in the house the downside of having it in a fire? Or are the fumes from the gasoline an issue? Because we can faintly smell gasoline fumes.

The fumes will always be there. I imagine that can't be good if it's always in your living space. Can you drain the gas tank completely before bringing the bike inside?

since your going to store it you should drain the gas anyways. plus the bike is much nicer to look at with the tank on and compliments the furniture and curtains better as well

Drain all the gas, and clean the tank out - also dont put the tires on linoleum, they'll stain - put a towell or something under it.

Oh, good to know. His bike is up on the center stand, and we put cardboard under the front tire.

As for draining the gas tank, i think he's going to go buy a pump and get all the gas out. Should that do it, or does he need to remove the tank to drain it. It's a 93 suzuki Katana 750.

Just remove the tank. It takes like 5 minutes and it's free.

I also like to put fuel stabilizer in first then drain everything so that whatever little is left over won't gunk. Remember to drain the carbs.

do you have anything under the center stand? It's probably going to leav indentations in the flor if you don't

Its a can of tuna, leave it outside to rot

I had my Zx-7 in the house over the winter...i just left the gas in it, it was in the basement so it didn't really smell, just put some stabalizer in it and parked it on a peice of lino over the carpet and put a 1x4 under the stand.

well student services said that we would be fined if we stored the bike in the house, so we're going to "not put it in there," which means we need to take it out before they come to check the apartments and find a place to store it.

or cleverly disquise it as.... a big shiney peice of art.

seriously though, if you drained all the fluids, and removed the tag, how can they say its any different that big metal furniture? i mean, with no fluids its just a big hunk of metal, wires, and plastic... nothing abnormal to have in your apartment, its safer than a little Nitro RC car

Yeah, I'm sure you can make this argument and win.

Wasn't there a video posted on here a while back of someone doing a burnout inside a house/apartment?

As far as hiding it, remove sliding closet doors, put bike in closet, throw a blanket and some clothes over it, put closet doors back on.

A lil advice. I have friends that stored bikes in the house with no problems. Well 2 years ago I decided to store me and my friends bike in my spare room (with a door that leads outside) Well we were getting ready to put the tank on it and get it out of the house and it got static electricity on the fuel drain line. I saw the flame come up and head towards the tank. CRAZY ****. Well my friends bike had Bomb Sliders on it (spring loaded sliders rare hand made by a local and Dan JAckson Rocked them.) Well we got that bike out the normal size door in like 5 seconds. The bike hit the doorway once and I lifted it up and out. We had a fire outside for 10 minutes before we put it out. the outcome was a smoked up house, Burnt ground wire on the bike, a overheated expanded tank, and a back yard that was half burnt up from me throwing the tank off the bike and into the grass. Gas shot out of the bottom of the outlet line. it was a mess and I thought that the tank was gonna blow for sure. Just thought I'd post the info.

The battery was still out of the bike BTW so that is why I say static electricity.
