but if it were a heater core wouldn't only be by the center console, and not clear over by the door?

its f'in carpet.. put a floor mat over it.

edit: it looks like there is rust on the dead pedal.. the bolt there.. and also under the gas pedal it looks like those streaks are brown.. check for rust on the firewall and leaks in that area.. personally.. just suspicion of it.. i wouldnt buy the car.

I noticed this as well too. I would definitely check around that area for rust and what not.

so how could water and what not get there? the only thing i can think of is the wind sheild leaks or water is running down the tunnel that the antenna cable goes through because to my knowledge there are no holes in the fire wall. i know if its dirt its no big deal, im not as concerned about the carpet itself as i am about what the hell caused it. the car i far away so right now all i have are pictures.

rust is rust.. plain and simple.. its cancer to a car.. itll be the death of it eventually... so start a project without it.. expletive that car.

Look for similar mineral deposits and staining on upholstery and seat belts, look in the trunk and see if it smells moist, when you drive the car see if the owner has scented things in the car that would mask mold smells or anything like that. The only way the car would be recorded on CarFax as a flood damage is if the owner made an insurance claim and that was reported to the DMV, if he only had liability insurance and he drove it into a lake when he was wasted and never reported it and fixed it up on his own dime than it could be a flood car, and have no record of it. be wary... caviat emptor
