I'm wondering if anyone here has purchased or used one of the 'cheaper' inverter style plasma cutters that are for sale on ebay and other places. There are many versions from 30-60amp, with cut capability claims up to 5/8".

I can't imagine that I'll want to use it for anything thicker than 1/4", and mostly would be far thinner, like 1/8". I can't seem to find any good images of a cut on thinner metal from one of these machines.

Yes, I know that (insert you favorate name brand) is the best, and I should just pay 3 times as much for the quality, but I'd really like to know if anyone has FIRST HAND experience with one of these machines.

i use a 30a smiley tools plasma regualrly for makig manifolds and ****,

it blazes throguh sched 10 like butter

 

how does the smiley do on mild steellike 1/4"?

 

1/4 is kinda pushing it with the 30a model.

 

Before you get any of the "cheap" plasma cutters or any cutter find out how much the "consumables" cost and how hard they are to find. All plasmas use electrodes and nozzles that burn out and have to be replaced after a certain amount of use. The cleaner your air supply is the longer they last. Some parts can be harder to find and cost more.
