1995 Si Prelude - 4WS & Cruise Control Problem
Hopefully someone here can help - my car seems to have a problem with the 4WS, when driving the car seems to SLIDE. According to my mechanic, the back wheels are not coming into line properly. They had tried to disconnect the 4WS fuse to eliminate this problem, but it is still happening. They are not too sure where else to look.
Also, my cruise control isnt working. Im assuming its due to a recent front end collision. My mechanics also cannot find where to fix this.
My mechanics are very good - they just have not come across this problem before and dont know where else to look!
Please HELP!

The rear wheels do not come back to dead-center when the car is off? Are you sure none of the rear suspension parts are not bent?
Does your 4WS work?
Does your mechanic know if the locking mechanism is working? It's the pin that is supposed to acitvate when the car is turned off. Also, when the 4WS light comes on, the pin is not supposed to come out. It's there to hold the rear wheels in place if there is an issue with the 4WS system.

The rear wheels dont come back into centre whilst driving, causing my car to "slide".
The 4WS is working slightly.
Apparently all suspension is ok.

If it were me, I would try to fix it. I would first try replacing the 4WS ECU since that is the most common 4WS component to go bad. If that doesn't work, I would then try replacing the electric motor that turns the rear wheels. If that still doesn't work, I would then see if the mechanic can permanently secure the dead-center pin into the 4WS rack and pull the 4WS fuse. If he can't, I would then look into replacing the rear end parts with a regular 2WS Prelude.
Let me know how it turns out.

Thanks AndyD.
Will relay to my mechanic...
Hopefully I have explained my problem properly - my mechanic says the rear wheel steering is activated whilst driving in the straight ahead position..
Has anyone out there experienced such a problem & if so, what is the cause?
