Default Timing belt for Dart B20+ block...

Hi

Can anyone kindly advise as to which timing belt to use for the Dart B20+ tall deck block? I understand that Dart specified the use of Cloyes #B-294 or Gates #T-294. But not having used them before, I would prefer some more assuring quality timing belts. Preferably could provide some details like the brand and part number?

Or could anyone adivse as to how strong are the Cloyes or Gates belt?

My ride would be a part time track car, running about 12.5 compression ratio and normal rev-ing to 9k-10k on track.

Thanks

Hi

Could you kindly advise how high is ur compression ratio? Also, do you track and how high do you rev? Cos I have real bad experience with regards to timing belts, so I am trying to find out more before I use the brands recommended by Dart.

I'm running a PE B18C belt on my Tall-deck Dart I had the same concerns as you have, I'm running Toda C cams and I had heard the stories about them beeing belt shredders so thought up a solution to this problem that would make me able to use stock length belts, and then have more options as far as belts go.

And yes I'm also running an electric water pump which is needed for this to work. I got a Meziere kit that I modified to work, what I did was to make an adapter for the idler gear that moved it up and in 14mm, to compensate for the added deck height. Looks to be working fine as I have close to 2k km's on it now without any issues.

Here's a few pics of the parts :

I think it depends on what oil pan you are running. If you are using a B20 (LS,B16) pan, the B20 (LS,B16) pickup should work.

Hi

Thanks for the advise. Just a thought, I can see that you are utilizing a 22T idle gear for your setup. Since the 19T idle gear is smaller in diameter, would it be possible to just use the 19T idle gear, without modification, and still use the Power belt for B18c?

Also, regarding your fourth picture, what is the purple gear? Can't really visualize. Is that the idle gear? I thought the idle gear is the black colour thingy shown in the first picture?

Hope you can enlighten me.

Thanks

Idler gear is black but black anodizing can look a bit purple when it gets old and worn, also the flash on my camera makes it look purple. And a 19 tooth pulley is not that much smaller than a 22 tooth one, remember the belt needs to be 28mm longer on a tall deck block, so I don't think this will work out with a stock length B18C belt.

.....even with the tensioner on full loose?

Looks like I'll have to mock one up and try it.

I highly doubt it will work, but go ahead and try it if you want to.
