Maint Required light.....is this normal?

Maint Required light.....is this normal?
I just reciently noticed that when i start my car the Maint Required light on the cluster flashes but only when i turn on the car. Ifigured it has always done that I just didnt notice. and i figured it just does that cuz most cars have all kinds of crazy stuff goin on when u turn the key is it normal or is maintence really required? lol

every xxxk miles it turns on flashing for 10 sec and goes away. after >10K it will stay on continuously.its just a reminder to change ur oil and rotate tires. theres the button to turn it off under the steeringwheel to the right attached to the plastic dash.
