Default Torque Everything Down? Please Don't Lie, i know you dont.

So i know this will be the debate on HT for a while,

Im in the prcoess of doing an engine swap an dinstalling a turbo.

We all know every single part in a car has a particular torque spec, whether its the head stud or the bolt holding the power steering pump. Whatever.

Some people always stress out on how important it is to torque everything down corectly.

The only trhing id really torque right is when assembling the head on the block and doing wheels.

Everyong has "the 30lb feel" the "130 lb feel" Whatever lb feel....

Tell me... do you guys torque everything down using a torque wrench? Or is it just a puzzle?

Thanks

When torqueing engine parts, +10 ft/lbs is considered "turbo specs".

Alot of guys and even some of my buddys say "ahh forget it, its a honda, just tighten everything as tight as it will go". Sure you can do that. But if it was ment to be that way, then there would be no such thing as a torque wrench or bolt torque ratings. There is a reason for them. Now just throwing on a set of rims tighten till they dont go no more. But when assembling delicate parts of the block and internals and head, IMO it is absolutely necessary you torque everything to spec, like i said thiers a reason that certain things have torque ratings.

And i personnaly use a set of torque wrenches, i dont go by just "feel"

Before I used to torque eveything by feel, until I started breaking bolts and stripping holes...

Now I always torque everything to spec...
Its not worth the trouble and delays because you overtightened something too much...

Obviously I torque down anything having to do with the block or head. The only other parts I always use a torque wrench for are the suspension pieces. Everything else--I don't feel its necessary. For instance--the bolts that hold the bumper on--probably will not make a difference in the life of the car.

head bolts, cam caps, and lower end internals... everything else, tighten as tight as it will go

if you're used to working on cast iron v8 ****, you'll probably strip a lot of threads and/or break bolts, but once you get the feel of steel bolts into aluminum, you should be fine

I torque everything thats important to specs. This includes everything inside the engine and tranny. But most everything else I dont bother. On smaller M6 (10mm head) bolts I torque because Ive broken far too many of them.

I rebuilt my entire suspension (ground up) without a torque wrench. It squeaked and creaked like crazy for a year until I got pissed off enough to redo everything to spec. No more squeaks.
