WTH Happened? Looks like my Coil exploded!
Hey guys,
My car is a 90 integra rs B18A1 obd0
So here is what happened
I went out to a friends house for the day, drove around alot,
Well, Last night I came home. Got some stuff together and was ready to go cruise
So I get out of my driveway, shift into second, and then I shift into third
Give gas and nothing, I was like, HUH? Because normally it goes faster when I give it gas
So I tried to give it gas again and nothing,
It just died right there, Tried to start it, nothing, tried to jump start it nothing,
Tried to pp it into gear and start it nothing
Well, I went today and got the battery tested its perfect.
So after searching
I went out to look at the coil, ignitor, starter all that good stuff
So I took off the cap and found this

So, What Happened?
What All Do I Need?
Coil, Cap, Rotor. Do I need a full obd0 dizzy?
Thanks, Later

Time to start looking for a new distributor bub. While you're at it, when you've got the dizzy off, i would remove the valve cover just to take a look at the intake cam or inside to make sure everything is copasetic.
WOW sorry to hear that new disturbator would be great but dont just fix it try to see what casued it as well so you dont end up with the same problem in the long run check your coil make sure that isnt sending out more voltage then the distubator can handle might be that

like i said, time for a new distributor.
and no, you can't get by tonigth with new cap, rotor, and coil lol. don't be lazy and cheap out, do it the right way and get a new dizzy.

YA.. why would you waste your money (50-75 bucks) on all that and have it do it again.. find out the problem. people who do things "just to get by" end up spending more in the long run. save time and money and do it right the first time.

Oddly enough, I started laughing also. I saw that picture and its like, whoa, what the hell!
Congrats though, I think you just topped my personal list of weird problems.

New coil, cap and rotor and she runs like new.
I have no choice, I couldnt offord a new dizzy.
This will get me by for the next week or so.
Thanks for your help guys. Later
I'm not that worried about the engine as It is getting replaced in the spring by an Imported Built B18A for boost (hope summer)

Spring is months away.....you risk having the car die on you again. If I were you....I'd find a way to afford a dizzy.....
you don't want to be in the midst of traffic for this problem to repeat itself. *knock on wood*

My guess as to the cause would either be a mis-aligned distributor cap (causes the little coil node on the spring to bind within the little shaft in the coil) or distributor cap failure of some type (sometimes the little node on the end of the spring in the cap can detach).
In either case, an increased gap between the coil and the distributor cap node causes the current to have to "jump" the gap between the coil and cap. Each time the electricity is forced to take this random jumped path corrosion and heat can result. Repeat this 100,000 times or so, and you get a ton of that white oxidation stuff and melted plastic components.
You're probably going to be fine with the new coil and distributor cap, although I'd recommend opening it up in a week or so and checking out the contacts. If you see any more of that white oxidation looking stuff on the new components then it's happening again.
Good luck!

This is funny, with people keep teling you to get new dizzy.
"Hey I got a flat tire what should I do?"
"Dude that sucks, you are going to need a new rim and 4 lug nuts, but meh I would get all 4 new tires and rims just so it's perfectly balanced."
You did perfect with just getting a new coil, cap and rotor. I would have gone with an external coil myself since its cheaper and suposedly a bit stronger.
