Does it ever quite getting better???
Well, its been 5 days now, and #559 is still freaking amazing me. I am getting more comfortable pushing her a little harder each day, and no matter how hard I accerelate or corner, its as if the car laughs at me and says "is that the best you can do?"
Took her to her first car meet and WOW, that was almost as much of a rush as taking a 25mph exit ramp at 55. Got to meet neo and a couple other R's. Was sweet seeing 4 R's in one place, especially since last friday was the first time I even touched one! Was interesting how much attention the R's drew over the tricked out eclipse's and civics.
(Excuse the babbling, but I am in the waiting room at acura. She is having her teeth straightened (alignment) and an oil change)
One good thing I discovered at the meet is my direction with the car. I have decided to keep her motor stock and do some cosmetic and bolt on upgrades for the time being. I got a lot of compliments for having a total stock r, so that's where I am going to go with that. Going to make it as hot looking as poss. Just ordered new mats and am going to start researching plug wires, hoses, etc.
I promise to take pix as I go (DAVE). My goal is a perfect, eye appealing stock car in 6 months (on a budget).
See some of you in orlando the 11th and some of you at the Friday meets in Davie.

It stops getting better when you crash it into a curb, guardrail or another car.
Take it to the track.

Welcome and enjoy the new experience, but RJ could not be more spot on.
Learn to drive it, But don't do that learning on public roads. The car is more capable than you are and will bite back hard sooner or later. It would be a shame if you wrecked it so early and or injured or killed yourself or anyone else.
Be safe and take it to the track.

Okay, point taken. I don't really drive that hard to endanger myself, the cars or others. Just daily driving fun.
There is a buzz around the dealership. I've heard the salesmen talking that there's an R in service. My service advisor told me they had a crowd out back checking it out. LoL.

It gets A LOT better when you start breaking things, attempting to mod, fixing the mistakes caused by the mods, start getting stalked by cops and thieves, burning oil, waking up with nightmares then running outside in 20 degree weather with nothing but your underwear on to make sure it's still there, walking out to your freshly washed car to find a new door ding or finger prints all over and hearing your alarm chip 4 times showing that it did go off.....
Sorry, I'm not in a good mood this morning.....

Ifits20 in southflorida, i'll be upset for other reasons!!!
So the "stealership" discovered some seals that need replacing, timing belt, rear brakes, oil pan gasket....my $80 alignment has turned into another $1,000 trip

Dont call it a stealership. They just want to take care of your car as much as you do.
Personnally I would change the timing belt/ water pump whneever I bought a used Honda. Specially if its close to 90k/100k.
How many are on yours by the way? Sounds like a very nice R. PY?

That's how it ALWAYS is. They try to find stuff wrong with your car, so you can pay them to fix it....suprise suprise more money for them.

I'd get a second opinion on all that. When she was still in my hands all that needed to be done was an oil change. I've had the car on a lift many times and nothing was leaking. The allignment, yes we talked about that but anything else? I'd question all that. The timing belt does need to be changed as you got her with 70k. Also when you do that, I'd do a valve adjustment. Other than that I'd do the water pump when you do timing belt, fresh oil change, and maybe the air filter as it was a little dirty. Other than that everything else on the car should be fine. Oh and since your buying new floor mats, can I have the old ones?

yea i stopped going to my dealership. I have gotten screwed twice now and I am not falling for it again. I am either going to do it myself, or pay someone I trust to do it right.
I amsick of the dealership. I spent 2600 on a headrebuild after a timing belt snap last winter and they gave me the R back saying that something was wrong wiht the distributor but not to worry about it. a few months later car stops accelerating right, I go there they basically tell me to fix it myself. Those bastards.
As for the thread maker, take it easy man. Track it a few times and learn what it can really do.

I stopped going to my local Acura dealer. They are really shady in every way a car dealership can be.
I found a local Honda dealer that is very honest and does actually care about my car.

ok..lets see...lots to respond to with my 5 posts a day...blah...i hate initiations...
Dave- No to the mats. I am only putting the new ones down for meets and stuff like that. the ones in it are for daily driving. As far as the stuff they said...i believe them. They did the full Acura pre-owned certified inspection thing on it, and notihng was urgent, except the brakes, but big deal on that (what you recommend for the rears?) I dont remember what seals he said, but they were cheap and can be done with the timing belt and he said they were just starting to seep and werent wet. PLEASE dont think i am saying ANYTHING negative towards you. She has almost 71K on her now and these things are normal. I expected as much. I KNOW you took awesome care of her...
I know about the meet Erick...i am planning on going..neo talked to me about maybe caravaning up. Sounds great. Cant wait to see all those R's in one spot!
I will track the car, but not til the maintenance she needs is done. I dont want to take a chance at breaking a timing belt just for a fun ride @ the track.
One last note...I REALLY think my Acura dealership (Rick Case) SERIOUSLY cares about my car. They went OUT of their way to make sure it was perfect when they gave her back to me. I personally watched 2 different mechanics and a service manager check the work on her. It was worth sitting there an extra hour or so for the attention i received. I felt elite in the way they treated me over the other people there. Hate to sound stuck up because i have an R, but hey...if someone wants to give me special treatment jsut because of what i dRive..who am i to complain!

I was gonna say, those mats you got were in damn good condition given their age. I'd like to see that car on a lift again. Last time I had her in the air there was nothing leaking at all. I always checked that along with the CV boots for cracks and all that chit. As for the brakes... the rears for now I would go with OEM until you get comfortable with the car. The fronts do most of the braking so those I would change out next time to maybe some decent pads if you plan on tracking the car, otherwise I'd stay OEM with those as well. I know your not saying anything negative or you wouldn't have asked me to do the work. At 70k she's in excellant shape IMO. Another thing you will be considering soon is a clutch. So IMO I would do a valve job, timing belt, valve cover gasket with grommets, rear brakes (dunno though as the car was braking fine) oil change and then check that air filter.

Hahahahaha... I have dibs on 2 more visits then he says they are worst dealership ever. I used to go there (off 441 and country line road) all the time with my GSR and had way to many arguments and bull **** with them. Buy a helms and some tools and learn to do the work yourself
Your $1k+ tune up will only cost you about 200 bux in parts and a weekend of your time.
When are you guys going to the o'town meet? I'll meet up with you guys, but saidly the R won't be running. The head is still in the shop and I've got to pull off the uprights to get the bearings pressed out and new ones pressed in.
