Integra gsr i need help
I have a 1995 integra gsr. it recently floated 2 valves and i had the head rebuilt. in the time that it was gone i bought some performance parts in the hopes of building it into a street machine. i bought a pair of 260 comp cams, a 70mm bbk intake manifold, a 70mm bbk throttle body, and a pair of aem tru time adjustable cam gears. The throttle body didnt come with a throttle position sensor, so i had to take the one off the original one. When the head came back i upgraded the springs and retainers to handle the cams. i put it all back together and it was idling high, and smoking. the valvetrain was noisy even though i adjusted it to comp's specs. The check engine light stayed on and after doing a diagnostic on the pcm it said the tps and the intake air temp sensors were not functioning properly. I tryed adjusting the tps, but it didnt help. I believe that its causing my ignition timing to be off, and i cant adjust it any further at the distributor. i drove it and it would not rev higher than 5000 rpm so i do believe it needs to be adjusted further. It started loosing power after about 3 days, and the valvetrain got louder, i checked the valve adjusting screws and they were where i had left them and hadnt gotten loose. it stopped smoking but lost more power and started making strange humming noise. Ive tried many things and im completely stumped and i was hopeing someone here knew anything about it and could help me out or send me in the right direction.
You're having a bunch of problems at the same time. First thing I would do is put the stock throttle body back and the tps to see if the check engine goes away for the TPS code. If you still have a check engine light with the factory Throttle body and TPS, the TPS is probably broken. Second, get a haynes manual. They're only like 14 dollars and they will help diagnose the problem with the Intake Air sensor. If you've never adjusted valvetrain before, I think it has a set of procedure. I don't think your vtec will work either if these aren't working correctly.
i do have a haynes manual, and its come in pretty handy. im gonna try the old throttle body again, but ive been back and forth through the haynes manual and havent been able to find anything relevant. it has a few tests to try and ive tried them and had no success. i didnt realize the vtec would have anything to do with it not hitting the rpm but i think your right. ill try it and let you know what happens i really appreciate the help. i needed to talk to someone else that knows something about these cars because no one around here wants anything to do with working on hondas. the mechanics in the area i live dont really have any idea about these cars, and i really needed someone with an outside perspective. im fairly certain that the valve adjustment is right though, but just to be sure ill try it again. But should i go with comps specs or the originals? and with all this air coming in should i have the pcm reprogrammed and/or go for bigger injectors?
As far as the valve train, does it make a ticking noises or is it just louder than normal? If I were you, After checking the TPS to see if it works, I would work backwards. Put the stock cams back on and use the stock specs. but leave the manifold on. What year is your car? Did you connect the Intake air temp sensor? I looked at the bbk manifold and I cant tell that it has an opening for it. I know the skunk2 manifold has one. If BBK manifold doesn't have one, you may want to make one. If its not connected your car will still have the Check engine light. Last thing is with this manifold you are going to lose horse power unless you have the civic type r or integra type r ECU or you get yours reprogrammed. The Stock ECU utilizes secondary runners for mid to top end. HP You will have a higher top end horse power but your mid range will have a noticeably reduced. DO NOT put aftermarket injectors on the car. CHECK Engine light will come on with the stock ECU.
its a 95. it was louder than usual but now its making a ticking sound. i checked the clearances and theyre fine. i cant put the stock cams back on because they were lost in shipping when i had the head refinished. the bbk intake does have a hole for one its just underneath the main chamber (kinda hard to see in the pics) and i checked the old one and for some reason it had exploded. literally! but come to find out the wiring was faulty. i ran new wires and it tested perfect and the light went off. but my tps is totally messed up i ran a voltage test and it jumped around randomly. im having a hard time finding a new one but im in the process of bidding on one on ebay. hopefully it will be in good shape. im glad you said something about reprogramming because im debating on it at the moment. if i was to reprogram it, should i get bigger injectors? if so, how big? also do you have any suggestions on who to go through and what to have them do? and you said something about the ticking and the tps. if i get a new one and adjust it correctly will it stop the ticking? i really appreciate the help. I want to learn everything i can about these cars. btw, i have got it running again, but im afraid of the ticking noise. i thought my valves might be striking the pistons, but every time i check it i have perfect compression. also, do you have any suggestions on turbos? or any other ideas? id like to get as much horsepower out of it and still keep it driveable on the street. even tho its really not street legal anymore cuz of the throttle body. at least thats what bbk says. also i have a unorthodox lightweight underdriven crank pully thats not been used if anyone wants to buy it, otherwise im sending it back.
