Default Bought a sweet '81 hatch today for $50!

Got it off of a freind, runs awesome, its only got 104k original miles!
Im gonna use it for a beater this winter. Does anybody know of any cheap mods for this thing? Its a carbed 1300 cvcc. Its rated at 55 crank hp. I think im gonna throw some hammers on it tomarrow and a rattle-can paint job.

I wonder what kind of swaps I could do to this thing. Maybe like some sort of old-school mini me or something? Suprisingly, for being only 55 HP, it really isn't all that slow. I beat my freinds 93 DX coupe from a light by about half a car. Laughing my *** off the whole time.

HELL YES!! I used to own the exact same car....except it was more brown/tan colored.

Never attempted anything to boost performance, but I remember hitting my 4th and final cog at about 40mph lmao

I had the same car. I sold it not too long ago and I miss it (for $1,300). I put a Jacobs Ignition Coil on it with Jacobs wires. I also dropped a K&N air filter element into it. You also might want to connect that air duct tube that goes from the passenger side air intake to the front of the car (it is a factory CAI design) You can probably find a generic tube from the auto parts store. I also had a performance clutch and pressure plate and a new brown paint job. I went as far as getting the head rebuilt and ported and polished. I used it as a backup car when my EF was out of service. I really miss the car, they are great and reliable commuters (with plenty of power for a small car).

We raced these as mini stocks up here in canada. We have had pretty much any engine in them. 8 valves. The biggest was essentially the 1602 accord engine.
The biggest we ever had was a stroked 1602 using and american 1.8 crank with .20" pistons. and custom built header. Found it lost a little top end less compression with the 1.8 pistons but more torque.
Found the most HP out of the 1602 took .80" off the head .20" off the block and overbored it .30" with flatop 1602 pistons. I drilled the jets one size bigger in the stock carb and that woke it up a bit too.
Anyway good find. I always thought that a 84-86 CRX 12 valve would be a great swap but never got the chance. I'm sure it would fit with out too much modifcation.

if i remember correcty when i looked into one of these cars i read that a prelude engine from the same generation had the exact same mounts and would bolt right up. i dont know what it was rated at but i am sure it was more than 55hp
