Default Integra Radio

I'm not too fluent in the audio part of cars. If I buy a 1998 integragsr radio/cd player, should i be able to remove my current radio and stick it in my 1990 Integra GS with no problems? Thanks

PS I know this belongs in Audio Security, but I need an answer asap

I don't know if the radio will just plug in, BUT any radio can be used in cars..... you just have to connect the right wire from the radio to the right wire going to the speaker, power, etc.

I think you'd be better off w/ aftermarket radio, FWIW. I liked my radio in my '90 teg GS better than my '01 GSR.

I'm pretty sure acuras use the same mouting plugs from older models. If not then you will just have to rewire using bus connectors. Dont just use electrical tape like some guy I know did to his setup.

If your looking into upgrading the Stock to Stock setup I would not reccommend it. Both setups dont put out enough power. You can go out and pick up a $100 deck with more power then the stock one. Just my 2¢.
Oh ya and when I upgraded my setup I just gave my stock cd/radio to a friend. Thats about how much its worth so dont get ripped off on it. I wouldnt pay more then $40 for sure.

One of my friends works at a dealer and was looking up Integra parts in their database the other day. It said retail price for a stock Acura headunit is over $1000! I guess the term stealership really fits.

Guess that's why it needs an anti-theft code. 80W of output is quite a bit for $1000, so you can see why they'd be a hot item for thieves.

the radio in the newer integra should fit without any problems i think, the trick will come when you try and mount it. I know the stock headunit has a bracket on the bottom i think that slides onto something else. But the original radio is secured from the rear. weather the 90 integra secures its radios from the rear is another question. Also keep inmind that the newer radios came with built-in theft deterence feature that requires an original code to unlock the radio. What this means is say for instance you remove the stock radio in your 00GSR and put in a aftermarket. 2 years later its time to turn the car in and you put the stock radio back in. Since the headunit has been removed and been without power it has gone into a "lock" mode where it wont function without you keying i think a 4 or 6 digit code on the number pad. Then it "opens" the radio and allows it to function correctly. The code can be found in the original owners manual. If you have found this in a junk yard forget it, it will probably never unlock unless the dealer can track the serial # on it or something back to Acura and get the code for it. If so give it a try dont know if the mounting holes match up though.

good luck

The 5 digit # comes on a wallet sized cared. Supposedly it is also on a sticker near the spare tire.

Mine is 31111, in case anybody wants to steal this POS.
