A20A4 engine? Accord Aerodeck 2.0i
Hi guys,
Ive just bought an aerodeck (1989) as a run about. Does anyone know anything about this engine? Any neat tricks to do? I believe it is the earlier B20 but without VTEC, any ways to do a mini me VTEC conversion. This is a UK spec car, as I am from London (UK)
Thanks in advance

It's an A20, aren't they SOHC?
There is a website dedicated to the 3rd gen (86-89) Accords.

I don't know how good it is, just know it exists.

they are called boat anchor motors.because that is the only thing
there good for....after you take the crank out of them and use
as a stroker for your b-series.

The 89 Accord (CA) for the US market, yes, but not the 89 Accord (CB) the was in the US 90-93 market.
Best thing you can do with it, if it has the B20, is get some reground cams. If you are looking to up the power, you can rebuild and use CTR pistons; the bore diameter is the same. Also consider having the throttle body bored out to 65mm, port the manifold etc. With some work, you can convert the intake manifold to one for a b16a (from a Civic SiR or Integra XSi); check 3geez.com for details on the conversion. For a header, get one for a 88-91 USDM marker year Prelude (BA) and have the down pipes rewelded to put up for the forward lean of the engine (the BA prelude B20's lean backward). Otherwise the header bolts up stock wise.
If you are ultra lucky and have a 5speed, you can also gets a LSD from a B16a cable tranny (same SiR and XSi) and put it in the tranny - they are the same differentials.
Check 3geez.com for more details on the above, and see if you can find carotman's posts about his car and OBD-1 conversion. Have fun, they are nice cars. Also check out http://www.pauldesign.ru - Russian owner, he has a aerodeck, or had, has the whole shop manual available for your car in PDF format.

This has the A20 engine, I was thinking of running some homemade ITB's on this? As seen on the HMT projects page. Is it alot of work? Or is it just bolt on? Its the tuning that concerns me a little. This is my everyday car so I need it to be reliable but just want a little something extra if you get what I mean. I'll sign upto 3geez.com
Thanks
Thanks
A20 is good for ITBs, but unless it is already EFI, don't bother, just get some DCOE carbs.
For mods, b18 / LS rods fit w/o any issues, and Diamond and JE have the piston specs to knock out some forged slugs; there are no Honda OEM pistons that fit the bore. Best bet is to enlarge the valves in the head, and port it to death; then it'll flow well.
3geez.com will be your best bet for info.
