when i put my head back on, i had some smoke coming from the valve cover breathers. some coolant had gotten into the oil passages and was burning off as white smoke. i don't know if that is your case though.
also, very low oil makes smoke. i'm not sure why, but it happened when my motor leaked (right before the head came off).
what have you done to your car lately? tune up, add oil, change spark plugs...

if smoke is coming out of your intake/im, you need to check the timing of you motor. did this happen all of a sudden or was it a result of modification

It happened when my crank pulley came loose causing the belts to pop off. got the pulley abck on and the belts back on...but the motor is struggling to turn over..and wont start. and i noticed that i had a very small amount of smoke coming out of the intake cone...and it smells strongly of fuel!

a motor wont start with 0 compression
have you checked if youre getting compression like i said in your other post?

and if your valves are bent....the air could be escaping thru youre intake

heres an h23a head (mine) when the crank pulley came off
timing belt and tensioner belt were still ON
i should have checked if the timing was still perfect before i took the belts out tho

but this was the result...its weird how it happend even with the belts still in tact

Looks like time for a refresh/mill/valves/V-Job/P&P and some big cams to me...
