handbrake problem

Default handbrake problem

i've got a 92 hatchback si and my handbrake only works one side, and since i live in canada handbrake is a national sport in winter.... anyways what you guys think might be the problem? i can lift the actual handbrake and when i park it works but not very good... but when use it while driving in the snow nothings happens... what should i check or do?

try jacking up the rear of the car, then take off the plastic housing around the e-brake handel base.

disconnect the lever mechanism from the cables, spin each wheel and pull its cable. if the wheels stop when you pull the cables, the brakes are good, and the cables aren't broken.

once this works with both wheels (you may need to replace a cable or something) just put the cables back into the bracket off of the e-brake handle, and start adjusting the nut that moves the cable holding bracket. you want it about 2-3 turns back of where it makes the wheels slow down.

Hopefully you're just dealing with stretched cables.
