ok so, i've got about 90% of my charge piping done for my turbo, and i've got my FMIC to IM all welded up, and i've got a bend on the inlet of the IC with my filter on there (super cold air intake ©). so, my intake is now a filter near my exhaust mani, bend around to a intercooler, up through the stock intake hole, to the throttle body.
now, i figured i might feel a little different when i get on it, right? so im on my way to my homies house after finishing up and i decide to try a little 3rd gear pullin. i get to 4.4K and VTEC comes in and out like a spaz (sounds like someone hitting a drum) and im like wtf.. and just let off. then just now im my way home, i went from a stop, and tried some 1st gear VTEC. same thing- rev's up to 4.4K, VTEC spazes then once its done (like 5k) it accells without VTEC.
wtf? checked my oil, checked my VTEC solenoid plugs, dunno if it's throwin a code since i don't have an O2 in, and it's ******* cold as ***** out. not gonna bother checking that now. any ideas?
in the morning im gonna check for code(s)
and yes, I know im not really getting any colder air than I was before the IC, lol
cliffs: my N/A intake runs through a FMIC, for a "super" cold air intake, now VTEC doesn't want to stay engaged

maybe vtec is alot like nitrous after a while you have to get it re-filled. just kidding, did you check the wiring from the vtec sylenoid to the ecu? maybe it's a loose conection or something. good luck on getting it fixed
Are you up to temp. when you are on it? I haven't neccessarily heard of a "super cold air intake," but if you are not running up to N.O.T., then vtec won't kick in.

check to see if the vtec solenoid is engaging properly. connect a piece of wire from the negative side of the battery to where the green and yellow wire come out of the vtec solenoid underneath the solenoid. Make sure it is function properly to begin with then go from there.

yes i was running at the right temp, and how would connecting the negative to the solenoid tell me if its working?
i've got a spare one, so im just going to drive it easy until monday, when I can connect my oil pres. guage as well.

you will hear the butterfly valves open and close. You can do it with a 12v batterty or connect your car battery and see if it is functioning properly.

What?? the butterflies have absolutely nothing to do with vtec function. You connect a 12 positive source to the solenoid to engage it manually, not negative and that one tell you much. Solenoids are screwy things. You can get them to click with a power source yet not hold under a true load. Dropping in and out like that sounds more like a wiring issue than anything else. Bad ground perhaps. I'd check all the wires in the area you were screwing around in. Retighten you grounds. Don't forget the one on the thermostat houseing. Don't think it's a temp problem. IT wouldn't engage at all if you were below operatin temp.
The butterflies for the secondaries will open at 5.8k regardless of wheither or not your vtec is working.
