Increasing Octane... what's the all-around best way to do so?
So, the only 2 ways I know are Toulene/Xylene or a racegas/pumpgas blend.
Which is better? Pros/Cons of each? Are there any alternatives?
Do either seperate from the pumpgas when the car sits for a long time?
I'm running an all-motor setup, so dont flame me too bad.... but I figured this forum might know more about it. I plan on increasing my octane from 91 to 95 or 99.
I made a feeble attempt to search, but not much came up. So if you know of a thread that covers this already, lead me to it.
TIA

buy a 55gallon drum of 100 or 105 octane.
homebrew stuff is kinda scary, and you never know how consistent the gas you get at hte pump us

why is straight race gas not an option?? you can get unleaded gas up to 112 octane so you wont fry o2 sensors and such.

how do you mix it? as far as how many gallons of 104 to how many gallons of 93 i'm assuming.
about what octane does it end up being?

Sure.... dont want to pay for it is the big thing. I could only go about 1100-1500 miles on a 55 gallon drum of the stuff if I used straight racegas. If I ran a 20% mix of 111, a drum would last me 5000-6000 miles. I do plan on buying one drum of 111 to last me for the year. This car is not a DD, so I wont be putting alot of miles on is.
But that's assuming the 100 or 105 gallon drums are the same price as a drum of 111 octane... how much per gallon do the 100/105 drums go for?

Wow, I'm pretty nub @ this stuff, but I never would have thought about buying a 55 gal drum of high octane gas. I live in Ca so I just thought that I was stuck with the shitty *** 91 octane. Where would one get a drum of higher octane unleaded gas and what would the price b like?? Just curious.
ps - not tryin to jack....

At least here theres bulk petroleum distributors and you can order the stuff. For me, a drum of 111 leaded is going to run about $300 after fees and taxes and a drum deposit. I can't seem to get unleaded race gas, too many domestics I guess.
If I weren't moving to a smaller town I would just buy the stuff a few gallons at a time. There's a few places aroung town one can do it.

alcohol injection... I personally fill up at the local sunoco station with 110 leaded. When Im cheap and run 92...I change my map. all depends on how much money I have.
btw I pay just under 5 dollars for a gallon of 110 leaded.

man i think the sunoco here has 110 at the pump for 4.50 a gallon...ive been paying 10$ a gallon for sunoco 116 and it doesnt last very long.
i know methanol and ethanol are very corrosive and eat up everything they touch
they corrode pistons, cylinder walls, valves, eat valve seals destroy rubber ect....not to mention you have to change the oil everyday
screw methanol

i didn't mean methanol....
I meant spraying a mix of alcohol and water into the charge pipe...a fine small mist....much like the aquamist setups found on STi's. maybe 20-30% alcohol.
maybe I should've said water injection :-P my bad.

It's for an all motor car, so water injection wouldn't help much at all in his case. I've tried WI/pure methanol/pure alcohol/mix when I was all motor with 14.5:1 CR, and never had any luck with it no matter how much timing I increased or how much fuel I pulled out.

Is that RON, MON, or PON octane rating? You guys in Eurpoe use a different system to measure octane than the US so its like comparing apples to strawberries. That should answer your question.
