Does originality mean nothing to you guys?
I just can't figure this craze out. The car came with a perfectly fine motor to begin with. If you want to build a fast K-car, there are tons of Civics, Integras, and RSXs out there to do it in. Why meddle with a package that ruled its day and is still nearly impossible to beat?
I'm sure a '65 Mustang with a 2004 Cobra motor would kick *** and be fast, but an all-original car is much more desirable and will fetch more on the open market. ITRs will be no different.
I dream of building a monster K20 too...in a TSX or 2002+ Civic Si.

thats your opinion. Id prefer a 04 cobra motor in a 65 mustang versus a stock motor

If your B18C5 is a total loss, that is, maybe you have a rod through the block, then a K motor of some kind might be a good thing to look at.
However, if you're just looking at a simple rebuild of your B motor, please be aware that the K motor is going to add up to considerably more money. There is a hell of a lot of "converting" to be done to get the motor and transmission in the DC2 chassis, and there are some other things you'll have to think about at the same time, like whether or not you want to lose the power steering, and whether you want the rack replaced in that case....
It goes on and on.
Don't get me wrong. K motors are awesome...but if you're putting one in your DC2 you need a little pool of money saved up and must have located someone you trust to help with the conversion. It makes perfect sense for an H1 Honda Challenge car, but might not make so much sense for a street driven or occasionally tracked HPDE car.
Just the old guy's opinion.

I don't know how to answer that except to say, "Because they can."
The long history of wins by the DC2 ITR in all kinds of racing (including N Series and World Challenge) means that the suspension options are totally sorted out. If you really want the best for your DC2 ITR for any given situation on the track (or street) you can pretty much just ring up anybody who can get you a good deal on Spoon or Mugen suspension parts, and there you are. Very hard to beat.
However, there's no escaping the fact that the K motors just simply breathe better and have more potential/litre than the B motors ever had.
To a lot of people, the ideal situation would be to find a way to stuff some kind of K motor into their DC2 chassis, and have the best of both worlds.
It's easy to put down 230 Dynojet HP with a K motor and a computer. No fancy cams or anything.

I've seen a few pictures of you near your new build. The grin seems to get bigger the closer you are to the car.

If you were going to build an H1 racecar out of it anyway, why didn't you just start with a base Integra shell?
Far be it from me to tell you how to spend your money, but it seems that you could have built an H1 car for much cheaper, and left one more ITR on the road rather than effectively erasing it.
Having said that...good luck. If your last one was any indication, it should be pretty nasty.

Well, for one thing, Jason is a great believer in the ITR brake system.

Sometimes you make it sound like a Bugatti Royale instead of a 200 Hp Civic.

yeah............
yeah............
I don't think I could ever drop any other engine besidse the b18c5 in my R even if it blew I would get another one... Not because I am biased just because I would wanna keep the R as whole as possible the way it came new.
If i ever had the money maybe I would drop a K20 in another R and fully build it for allmotor and see what kinda power it could make.

Honestly, I used to feel EXACTLY the same way that Ross does. After driving this thing, however, I don't know if I could ever go back.
We'll see how well she does come February

Not calling you out Ross, only using your quote to point out that many of you in this thread failed to read the link I posted that clearly explained why "THIS" ITR got a K transplant.

I think that's a fine idea and is just too good of an idea not to follow through on. I really kinda lust after a K20Z-whatever-powered EP3.
Victor is one person that I know shares my view of the DC2R. I'd rather stick a D-series in my ITR if the motor blew and wait for a B to become available.

that swap looks like garbage. the inverted hood sucks as well, you cannot say that it is functional. there is no way that front bumper supports the air flow to make the hood work. so that being said i cannot over look how ugly it is. it would be worth more if it were in stock form.
