Default Protecting your Carbon Fiber Hood

I was wondering if any of you guys have anything to protecting your cf hood from turning yellow or getting rock chips?

Don't drive on gravel roads

......there's not much you can do to protect the hood from rock chips........unless you use a bra.........but then dirt collects under there and it gets very nasty after a while.

I've never heard of them turning yellow or anything........i wonder why that is.

oh - lovin the signature.

Very very interesting.

I think i'll get a double clear coat when I get my car painted. I was going to tell them not to touch the CF hood - but i guess i'll have them throw a clear coat or two on it.

I was contemplating getting it painted black a long with the rest of my car - but i don't think it'll look too bad.

To avoid rock chips: don't tailgate

Never heard of CF hoods turning yellow, only the clear coat fading.

When I had a CF hood, I would wax it like waxing the rest of the car.

Does anyone make those 3M film kits for our cars? Maybe try putting that film on there. I've heard it works great for rock chips.

what is a film kit?

I'm assuming its some kind of "film" that is some how bonded to the vehicle..........maybe with some kind of adhesive.

How would you adhere the film to the vehicle?

Stoneguard 3M makes them for almost every car. Rockblocker is another one.

I'm not sure if they still make it for the Prelude since it's discontinued.

Yeah, it's basically a clear film (adhesive) that's cut to specific measurements of your front end. You can say it's like window tint, but clear.

The product is not exspensive (it can if you buy in bulk), it's the labor. You can DIY and save money.

I assume you'd need the oem style cf hood for it to work right.

For more info, go to rockblocker.com

Ya, over time the clear coat turns yellow because of the exposure to direct sunlight. I clayed and waxed my old hood and the clear coat started to fade and dull up. So I returned it to the manufacturer and they replaced it at no charge but told me not to clay or wax it because of the different chemicals (in the wax, polish, clay, etc.) that mix can hurt the clear coat. They preferred just washing it. Btw, I've been through three CF hoods: one VIS and two Seibons.

After a while (about a year), the VIS hood clear coat turned yellow and it looked like I had a Kevlar hood (without the bulletproof feature)

The first Seibon hood looks really nice, however there was a manufactural defect on the clear coat because after a while, it started to fade. I'm now on my third Seibon hood and I just want to prevent this one from turning yellow or getting rock chips like my prior hoods.

i dont think it'd be much weight considering it's just a small amount of paint.

Clear shielding tape from Garrot's:

http://www.griotsgarage.com/ca...77892

Different widths... Suppose to be removable and all... You would use strips on the front of the hood to prevent the rock chips, like an invisible bra. I think this is similar to the 3M stuff the people were describing.

But would not help with the whole thing yellowing... That just sounds bad... Until you post I was going to order a hood from VIS or Sebon... Now I'm not quite sure what to do. How long did it take for the hoods to yellow? Are we talking months or years?

Seems your got hoods from the biggest names in the biz and they still yellowed... Maybe a car cover is the only way.

Between the two companies, I would choose SEIBON over VIS any day. The reason is that their hoods fit right.

Well, I'm supposed to put my pics there, but for some reason it doesn't show in the sig. I did write the 'still loading' (but the picture doesn't show)

lol..the sig really doesn't show and I don't know why.
but anywho, how do you know your hood's not yellow...of course it's not going to be as yellow as my happy face ...but the best way to find out is..find a car that has a brand new cf hood and park right next to it. At first, I didn't think mine was yellow either until I got a replacement and realized how yellow my old hood really was.

Oh and for the record, when I had a VIS OEM CF hood it didn't fit either and they're customer service is also poor.
