Default Auto tranny problems, shifts waaaaaay early.

Ok guys the car is a 1991 Honda Accord, wiht a 1997 F22 motor but the stock '91 auto tranny. Thing is when the car is cool, or just turned it on (even if ive been driving it for an hour but ill shut it off then turn it on) it is fine. But after a few minutes the tranny will shift at around 2800 rpm, no sooner or no later. That means if im just putting around town, it wont shift out of gear til 2800, or if im at full thorttle it will shift at 2800. And it will not downshift unless i come to a complete stop (BIG pain in the *** when Im trying to get on the highway and the powerless beast wont grab 2nd itll stay in 4th). But when i do come to a stop and it does downshift, it will grab the gears HARD. But wierd thing is if i shut it off and turn it right back on, it will be normal until it decides to do this again (which is like 2 minutes). Any ideas on what I need? Maybe a new tranny computer/processor? Thats the only thing I can think of, but before I spend any money on it I want to make sure thats what is wrong. Thanks in advance guys.

Do you see the "D" light blinking on the cluster? It's similar to an CEL light where you can check for codes. Instead of referring to the ECU, you refer to the TCM (Transmission Control Module) for the code listing.

Have you tried checking the fluid level?

The 90-93 Accords had some issues with the TCM control unit failing. Like what was said above, check the fluid and for codes. Good luck!

Fluid is fine..........and no codes. Should I just replace the TCM?
