Default rod bearing caps... can they be on backwards?

ok so I bought a motor a few weeks ago from someone on here and I finally got the motor put in and started it up and took it for a drive down the street and back and there seems to be a horrible sound that was coming from the bottom end. it sounds like a bad rod bearing or main bearing... so I took the oil pan off and the girdle and when I look up at the rod caps... the two middle ones look like there on backwards... correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't that contribute to a spun bearing since one of the bearings ears is on the wrong side? thanks

It would contribute to a spun bearing because the bore is no longer round.Usually the engine won't turn with the cap on backwards.More of a clamp than a bearing.

Well first you need to find out if thats the problem or not. If so, I would pull the crank and check it for damage.. Then replace all of the bearings.

you might end up having to replace your crank if the journals are bad enough.

the journals look fine ( no gouges or scoring or anything on it) but the two middle rod bearings look like they spun. so I guess now I should replace all the bearings right? is there way to make sure there isn't any bad contaminated oil ( with maybe metel chips shavings in it ) left in the engine?

also, how do you know if the crank has any damage? I mean, I don't see any discoloration or anything. so am I good? or what else should I do

take your fingernail and run it across your journal, if your fingernail catches AT ALL, remove it and send it out to get micropolished and to get matched bearings for the journals that they worked.
