vtec burning oil

Default vtec burning oil

I have a civic si (2000) and when i accerlate hard some black smoke comes out. It it normal for a car with vtec to burn a little oil?

mine does the same thing but white smoke, try searching and you will find a lot of things about this. run a compression test, after do a leakdown test and it will pinpoint the problem. most likely the rings are bad or something around that area.

Black smoke IS NOT BURNING OIL...

Black smoke is RUNNING RICH
White smoke is BURNING COOLANT
Blueish smoke is BURNING OIL

And YES it is common for VTEC engines to "drink" a little oil when driven hard...

oil smoke is white with a blue ting to it. you might just be running too rich

And one more thing... DO NOT DO ANYTHING until your engine starts to burn aprox 0.7-1.0qt/1000 miles...

All below that is considered normal...

yes he is exactly right, i just couldnt think what color means which.
