Default Results of the Royal Purple Dyno!!

This is a dyno result I just stumbled across! I thought everyone would like to see it! Now if we could see it next to another leading synthetic like maybe Mobil 1 so we know if there is a difference? Hint Hint! Someone out there with a dyno HOOKUP maybe!

Anyway here it is check it out!

EVERYONE, please bump this so everyone gets to see it!

well, first of all, the video is from "horsepower TV" and is used as fodder for the RP website so...

but also, they don't tell us what oil was in the car before they changed it. if they had a 10w50 or a 10w40, it would obviously dyno more with any 5w30 in the crankcase .

Im going to be honest, that is the worst test I have ever seen. They dont even show you the dyno graph they just show you the number. For all you know they just let off sooner on the 1st run than on the 2nd or some other bullshit. It could have been 40 degrees cooler when they decided to run it again.

I totally agree that it could very welll be rigged.

But it would be nice to know for sure though!

I am assuming you would have seen the same gains with Mobil1 or something similar, BUT I would like to know for sure. Maybe someone here at HT can hook us all up with a REAL test.

yeah, a 3rd party test would be a good place to start. one without a vested interest in either oil outperforming the other.

bah, once i make the garage of my dreams and have my own dyno, i'll go ahead and do the test

This is BS. I never heard of putting any Synthetic oil and gain 9HP. You gotta remember that Royal Purple could sponsor or gave them the $$$$ to advertise this video

Or send some to DFE for testing. How about RLZ they have a dyno inhouse. DFE has an engine dyno.

wrong, this is possible, if they were going from something like a 20w-40 conventional to 5w-30 synthetic this is very realistic....espescially bc they did the trans and diff too....now im not gonna say some $$ could have been involved but its not as much bs as you think....

oh and missle boy, use the edit post button from now on instead of making 2 posts....

they did this on TRUCKS also they showed that the truck was working at lower temps and that the truck was having to do less work to move the rollers, but it wasnt really being dyno'd, it was just a temp/work test

Forget actual numbers, we are talking less than 3% increase in "peak output". Easily possible.

The original oil was old so there is no telling if the gains came from just adding fresh oil or if royal purple actually aids in reducing frictional losses. To add upon that was the original synthetic if anything it shows that fresh oil is better than old oil.

My friend did this in his 325. When I would race him when I had my H23, we ran a few times when he had thicker oil. He would pull away from me pretty good. Once he changed to the proper weight oil, the difference was MUCH more noticeable. It made a believer out of me.

Anybody whos played Gran Turismo knows you can gain HP by merely changing the oil. But seriously they should of done a baseline pull with fresh regular oil first.

Noticing a much bigger difference in his friend being able to pull on him more after he changed it to royal purple. Its just like with that video. The guy could have shifted better, gotten a better launch, any retarded thing could have made the difference lol

ok. i can dig that

but his situation highlights a vast difference in oil viscosity, which is shown to make a difference in engine output. i'm not sure "racing" is the best measure of that difference, though.

I could with our Mustang MD250-P. I have a stock '02 Civic Ex that I baselined before with regular motor oil at 85 whp. I have Mobil1 in there now but I wouldn't mind spending $75 or so on a few different motor oils and a filters. It'd be nice to know for my own sake. Probably will do it within a couple weeks.

Which oils should I use? I'm thinking Royal Purple, Mobil1, Amsoil, Redline and ...?
