pools of oil and gas in with the spark plugs!!
Man... I just cranked my new engine over today and let it run a while. I noticed it was running very hot and smoking pretty bad. I pulled the spark plugs out to find that they where filled with what I think is gas and oil!!
I took the valve cover off and on the intake side it looks as if the valve retainers where scraped along the sides of the head. WTF!
There was no gaskets for the spark plugs on the valve cover. I'm going to take pictures of the scrape-age in the head.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why there would be that mix filling up inside with the spark plugs?????
If I make no sence I'm sorry but I think I'm still in shock.....
Thanks anyone!
Frank

if there are no spark plug gaskets thats the reason for the oil, not sure why it would be loading up with gas unless your plugs suck or your fuel pressure is too high. and take some pics of those retainers, i'd like to see what you're talking about.
thanks for the intrest!
Here is the pic of what I'm talking about. This is looking at cylinder #1 on the intake side. They all have these marks... the exhaust side isn't as bad though.

I'm going to buy a gasket set and new spark plugs tomorrow. Then I'm going to do a compression test just to make sure it's not something else.

Dude, that's scary as hell, i don't even see how your retainers could scrape all the way over there. You must have gremlins in your motor.
Looks like some ignorant hillbilly has had the head apart and scraped it all to hell putting the retainers and springs back in. I see stuff like that a lot around here. Most small local shops do very sorry work.
